SiameseFightingFist
In the past week little minor bits of bubbles have been showing up on the surface of my tank. No idea what's causing this, it doesn't seem to be causing any harm to anything:

Bettarazzi
Ugh duckweed. I'd be removing it. Dunno about the form. Some of my algae ridden tanks do that.
shadoh
What critters do you have in this tank?
melbournebetta
Algae, actually, thats the only other time i've seen anything like this. Is there a sort of oily slick over the surface, or a sort of slimy scum that is a bit like when milk gets a skin when it's going off.. uh.. my stomach churned then just thinking about it. SiameseFightingFist
I don't see an oily slick/scum at all. No algae in my tank. I've got bristlenoses and otos in there that keeps things algae-free. There are snails in there too. The rest are bettas, neon tetras, black widow tetras, corydoras, yoyo loaches, kuhli loaches, and danios. Planted tank, lots of surface agitation and water movement over half of the surface area. The other half of the surface area consists of floating plants so the water is still.
lachie1998
maybe just bubbles from your filter or airstone?
SiameseFightingFist
maybe just bubbles from your filter or airstone? It's never shown up before though. Ugh duckweed. I'd be removing it. They came with some other plants but they're ok. I clear a load of them every couple of weeks or so while I'm doing a water change. They'll grow back over the next few weeks and I'll clear them again. They do a good job of keeping the water clean so I don't mind them. Dunno about the form. What form? SiameseFightingFist
The netting you see there are to create clear spaces or 'wells' of still water amongst the floating plants for the bettas to hang out in.
afr3178
So.. Are the bubbles only inside the wells?
shadoh
So, the bubbles are in a section of still water where Bettas hang out? Stupid question, but is it the remnants of a bubblenest???
SiameseFightingFist
No, the bubbles kind of started outside the wells at the edge of where the water current meets the floating plants. It was only a few bubbles so I didn't pay it any heed. Then later in the week it showed up IN the wells (don't know how the bubbles would've gotten there) AND on top of the duckweed. Strange!Female bettas don't make bubble nests do they? Certainly not in fast moving currents I would've thought.

Lilly
Ness, what would the 'oily slick' mean? I've got some of this in my fry tank and am a little concerned? (Sorry I was no help, SiameseFightingFist haha)
Bettarazzi
Oily slick could be a protein build up or algae. Either way you need to increase filtration or increase water changes to get rid of it. It shouldn't mean imminent death for your fry however. Lilly
Gave them a Sponge Filter today and it seems to already be helping. Thanks heaps, Bettarazzi! :)
