Chuckie
a couple of people have reported only being able to post 5 per thread (as opposed to 5 per post, ie can't post photos in a reply after posting photos in the first post). Is this right? and is it the case in all our forums? (you'd think I would know, lol).
splendidbetta
Doesn't this happen when the same poster replies to their own post within a certain period, before anyone else does, so the 2 posts merge?
Bettarazzi
If you want to post more than 5 images you have to wait for a while before your next post to stop the posts merging. Not sure how many minutes it needs to be.
Rod
???? I posted 11 images on the thread regarding Betta uberis.... :(
Jess
There is a post limit yes. This is for our dial up users and what Razzi said.. :D
Ghengis
I remember the issues I was having with my DIY Barracks Thread... I found that if I tried to put up consecutive posts, or pictures, I'd get an error message, telling me that I couldn't post more images due to them merging with my previous post and putting me over the "pic per post" limit... If you want to post more than 5 images you have to wait for a while before your next post to stop the posts merging. Not sure how many minutes it needs to be. I am (not so) happy to inform you that, at least in my instance, the waiting period is greater than twenty minutes. It's the second most frustrating thing, EVER. (after finding that there is no Vegemite left when you go to make breakfast on a Saturday morning...)
Chuckie
you could always post a link to your photobucket album, where the rest of the images are. You must not have many frustrations in your life, G! :)
Rod
That may explain it.... My images were a link to photobucket.....I didn't realise you can download images direct to the forum??
Chuckie
You can't - you need to upload to photobucket (or similar) first, then use the IMG tags from Photobucket etc to show the pics here. I was suggesting a link to the photobucket album istelf, rather than using the IMG tags :)
Figure_8
or you need to wait until someone else posts after you so you can post more images :)
Callatya
The waiting period is greater than 20 mins? Hmmm, I thought it was 15. *puzzled* I'll look.
Ghengis
Pretty sure it was twenty... ALTHOUGH, my frustration and annoyance at wrestling with the system to let post me pics as and when I wanted to, could have made the time seem longer than what it actually was... I must say, I am a member of quite a few different forums, and this is the only one that seems to have problems with multiple, consecutive, postings of images... And Lilli, after my top two frustrations of finding no Vegemite for breakfast and of not being able to put pictures up onto a forum, all other frustrations pale in comparison :)
Chuckie
:) If you look at the thread Jess posted about posting images, she does specifically ask that if you have more than a certain number of images, you link to them rather than posted. I hate having no milk for a cup of tea on Saturday morning.
Bettarazzi
That may explain it.... Rod, you posted 11 images in the whole thread not in a single post. I think the most you ever had was about 3 images in a single post. And there were always other posts in between yours. The merging of posts is a new function which came after the upgrade that happened a little while ago. In April last year, before the recent upgrade change things, I started a thread about the Thai Betta Show and posted about 30 images in the whole thread. In the section where I posted pics of the winners, I was able to do this 5 pics at a time, starting a new post immediately after the next.

Ghengis
OK, so since I have been directed back here, I guess it only prudent to leave a post. First up, I want to make it perfectly clear that, whilst I find this pic-per-post limit ridiculous and frustrating, I have complete respect and gratitude for the work already put into this forum by the Amin (non plural) and various mods (plural). So, please, don't anyone take anything that I say personally...I am like everyone else, in that I just want to see this place be the best it can be, friendly and easy for everyone to use... Now, my question. Is there a pic per thread rule? In the "Post Pics of Yourself" Thread, there are in excess of 50 images (I think...), and although they are all by separate people, the bandwidth required to show them all is still the same. No? I understand the reasoning behind limiting the amount of pics in one post, however, if I post say 15 pics, over five different posts, how does that use less bandwidth than if they were all in one? What I am getting at is, can we do away with this post merge thing...as in, can I post my 15 pics, 3 at a time, sequentially, in separate posts? I read the bit about linking to p'bucket (or wherever), but if I am trying to post a tute or step by step, is it not a little illogical for the reader to look at step A, click the link, read step B, click the link, read step C...etc? It keeps the flow going much better, and makes the explaining alot clearer, if the pictures follow the words. IMO. I know there is a lot of (oftentimes thankless) work that goes into maintaining a site like this, but would it take much extra work to turn the post merge rule off? I ask that sincerely, because I really don't know what is involved... Can that be done? I just think it would make things alot easier for everyone involved... Not least of which the Admin and Mods not having to resurrect this Thread every time one of us ingrates has a whinge :P
Fergus
I have a feeling that i read somewhere that the post pic limit was also do with spammers... i know of forums that have had that problem but i don't know if AAQ ever has or not. Chuckie
OMG have we ever had spammers. Porn, spam, you name it. I was deleting porn and spam more than once daily a little while back. That is why all new members must now post in intro and have their posts approved. It is actually far less work than keeping on top of the porn was. Blech. would it take much extra work to turn the post merge rule off? I ask that sincerely, because I really don't know what is involved... Can that be done? The short answer is that frankly, I don't know. It could be a modification the former fellow admins deliberately set up, or it could be built into the forum structure itself. I don't think it's necessary for me to go into a whole public explanation about what's happening in my life at the moment so I am not going to; I will simply say that this is not something I can feasibly address in the foreseeable future. In any event, as someone involved in moderating this forum, I am not convinced that the inconvenience of this function outweighs the benefits it has. Not saying it does or doesn't, just that it is something to consider. PS - was "Amin" a Freudian slip? :P
killimike
PS - was "Amin" a Freudian slip? I love it. EDIT: Oh yeah, I can attest to the spam! I think the current post approval setup is a good idea. As to more than five photos, we will just have to make do for the time being. I have come across it tonight myself, posting show photos, and while it is frustrating, it's just something we work with. You just need two accounts! But seriously, it doesn't come up tooooo often.
