Mango4Jade
Yes, a pool with baby bettas in it. The forum leader of one of the other forums out there posted it up. Its so cool IMO. The owner is "yeeviabettas". I thought I might as well share it with other people. This are the red chilli halfmoon cross copper crowntail babies. I have some males that been jar and they are very pretty!!!! The water is so clear with lots of algae and plants. smile.gif I haven't change any water at all. LOL The rain, the sun, the live plant and the algae do all their job. smile.gif Oh, inside got snails too. More close up!! I think only one male in here or two. smile.gif They are two types of color. Green and gold cambodian with green red tail. http://70.85.81.229/2764/35/upload/p753565.jpg http://70.85.81.229/2764/35/upload/p753566.jpg And more closer http://70.85.81.229/2764/35/upload/p753571.jpg Mango ;)
Jess
Wow!! They are massive! I have summer tubs in the planning, still a baby thought though (BTW, Did you get permission from the author to post it here? Cos I don't want people to get all legal on us, been there, done that )
Chuckie
like Jess said ... well and TRULY done with that, LOL. I am guessing that pond isn't in Sydney!
Robbies Betta
that would be a wicked breeding pond, especially live bearers in summer ;)
fuzzy_dragonfly
Ahhhh the old shell pools, I still remember my old green ones, I think there in the back of the shed somewhere. I suppose the idea is there, weather permitting, so long as you don't have little kids or other pets that may take an interest in bettas .
Bettabegood
How lucky to live in a climate that allows you to keep bettas outside! With this pool, I wonder if attacks by birds would be a problem? Sue
Chuckie
I'd certainly be putting a bird net over it. I had to with my koi pond, so it's like second nature. I wonder if it has a pot-plant filter ....? Just kidding!
edie
pot-plant? the algae is the plant LMAO Looks like somebody ought to clean that pool now...it looks just like my tank after 4 months without cleaning LMAO

VickiPS
I like the idea of outside growout pools/tanks in summer, but I doubt that up here I could keep the canetoads out. I have no idea whether they would be harmful to the fish. Anyone know?
Jess
No Idea Vicki How about some fly mesh over the top? I was thinking about that photo today as I noticed most of the fish in the clamshell are th same size. *If* they were all brought up in there together, they are all around the same size. Quite different then what I get if kept in a large tank together with lots of water changes!! *ponders*
VickiPS
No Idea Vicki How about some fly mesh over the top? I did some checking -- according to the Tropical Wetlands Management Authority, 'toadpoles' are toxic to fish that eat them A mesh cover would probably do the job, but would eliminate any chance of mozzie larvae as a food source. Darn!
Chuckie
a bird net would let the mozzies in but keep the toads out - right?
Robbies Betta
or sum chicken wire shaped over the top, so that u can lift it like a lid :whistling:
edie
I'm not quite so sure with Mozzie though. I find many starving mouth attacked the mozzie before they even have chance to lay the eggs
VickiPS
Aviary mesh or something like that should work -- good thinking! (Cane toads can squeeze into very small spaces )
Robbies Betta
Thank god we don't have Cane toads here... yet. dread the day they finally arrive :D
Bettabegood
Right there with you, Robert! I haven't seen any canetoads yet (despite a few visits to Brissie), and I don't want to see any, thank you very much. Canberra's so cold, I'm hoping they won't want to come here... Netting over the pond to keep out the birds would be a good idea. I put a net over my vegies, otherwise those cockatoos attack them, the rotten hoodlums. I think if I had an outdoor pond for my bettas, the wild ducks would quickly take it over. Last year a pair of ducks tried to claim my horse's water trough as their pond; they turned the water green in a day. Sue
