Matt_95 Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 I've decided to set up a tank for soem crabs so while I am away I have been busy collectiong some, no ID on the first two, I'm calling them Aussie vampire crabs for now. What do you guys think of them? Fiddlers
fishbites Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 Not the sort of announcement to make in polite company Matt nicely coloured little fellas.... are you going to set up a habitat tank for them?
Matt_95 Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 I'm just so excited is all For now it's a bucket with brackish water and sand lol. I'll be setting up a marine iwagumi tank, I got some macro algae from an LFS that was growing as a carpet in their display tank. I'm sending two pairs up to Sarah as well.
jha Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 Can these be adapted to freshwater Matt? pretty cool looking crabs. cheers
Matt_95 Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 Nope, they can survive for short periods of times in it though, it's not good for them though. They can go brackish though.
PeachSlices Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 Not the sort of announcement to make in polite company Matt i dont think Matt gets it. Nice crabbies!! Simon
Bettarazzi Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 If Matt was getting it, that would explain the crabs. *lol*
fishbites Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 Lets hope he's not getting it then!!!
Sarah Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 Heh. He should get it - he's told everyone he has crabs already. Nice crabs Milkcrate.

zhong89 Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 are they freshwater or saltwater crabs?
Bettarazzi Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 @Joan Can these be adapted to freshwater Matt? pretty cool looking crabs. Nope, they can survive for short periods of times in it though, it's not good for them though. They can go brackish though.
zhong89 Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 lol... I completely missed that. Got distracted with the "matt got crabs" comment
Fletch Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 LMFAO. How do you find these things mate. :-)
Yanagi Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 I just watched the video. Wondering if it actually consisted of a mouthful of crabs or there's something funky in my tea... Um, I hope this is the first and last time I ever say this but; congrats on the crabs... :)
fishbites Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 ummm.... Paul you don't want to find those things :P
Matt_95 Posted January 14, 2012 Author Report Posted January 14, 2012 They don't nip, they are very placid. They run though. You need to be really sneaky and stalk them or some don't reach a burrow in time and you can grab them. Can't see your videos guys :/ oh if you go catch them wear heaps of mossie repelent. I've still got bites :(
Fletch Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Not sure that's right Matt. I think having lots of Mozzie Repelent on may hinder the chance of catching the crabs in the first place. :-)
fishbites Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Plenty of cream Matt.... that will settle the bites ...
