mumofthehoarde
I have been collecting up my "Berri Fruit Juice" bottles to add to my barracks I am building. I have soaked the bottles over night and scraped off the labels. The problem is, apart from me being a complete anal retentive but that is another issue, the sticky gum residue left. Is there a way to get it off that wont contaminate the fish water once I start to use them? Thanks
pritch33
Try some vineger or bleach not a scented one (white king personally) not sure if they will remove the glue but both will rinse of and break down in water Ray
kertaz
I used the scrubber made of metal. Can't remember what it's called though -.-. Scourer? That + hot water. Worked for me to remove it completely But of course, ended up with plenty of scratches where the glue was.
Wild Nut
If you've got most of it off, you can use Melafix to get any residue off. It's essentially just eucalyptus oil and obviously perfectly aquarium safe. I just dab it on some paper towel and rub it until the mark has gone. Yanagi
I think I've heard of using eucalyptus oil to remove the sticker residue? Might be worth trying.
girlz0r
:) use a normal eraser, like the ones to rub out grey lead that you use in school/art I sit in front of the tv to do it, a bit time consuming
mumofthehoarde
I am going to go with the leave it there. Which my husband fines hilarious as he knows things like that bug the hell out of me. But I really need to get this built as the kidlets (what we nicknamed kermadum's spawn we are raising) as starting to get restless. Their need over-rules my anal retentiviness...
CNgo2006
WD40 /degreaser or acetone will do the job. will come off nicely and easily, remember to wash bottles well afterwards. Edited October 27, 2012 by Chi
Bettarazzi
Mineral turps will get the glue off then methylated spirits to clean off the turps then wash with soap and water. It's on the outside of the bottle so it shouldn't contaminate anything.
shadoh
I find if you fill the container with hot water, the glue on the outside will be soft enough to remove with wd40 or orange oil. Give a good rinse and you're good to go...
les
I use a similer method to Jarrod I putt the bottles in realy hot water and then when they have taken up the heat I use eucalipt or tea tree oil. store jars upside down so they dont collect debrie ( but you already thought of that didnt you MOTH) LOL Another word of advice for anal retentive dont drink coffe whilst doing this as you will just be more iratated LOL Cheers Les
