Chuckie
So, are there any aspiring authors among us? We are in the process of finalising the changes we have foreshadowed and we're hoping to have some articles by our members that we can post up soon for all to enjoy. If you have an article you'd love to write, or you're partway through something you have a burning desire to finish, don't let it wallow incomplete in your mind or on your hard drive! Please let us know, so it can get the recognition it deserves. For those of us who aren't of the literary persuasion (or who just don't have time), are there topics you'd like to see articles about? We're hungry for some food for thought! All suggestions to our editorial committee are welcome
Chuckie
How about acclimatising new fish? with bettas, it is so much more than just floating the bag for 15 minutes!
splendidbetta
I don't fancy myself as a writer, but earlier this year, as a class, we had to write short stories on a topic of our choice. We had to choose a topic/theme, and write a short story about being in that situation/theme from 3 different perspectives and writing styles. Of course, the theme I chose was breeding Betta splendens. I *think* I had saved the stories on the computer, but I cant find them now So rather than type about 2000 words again, I just took photos of each printed page ;) Can I post the 3 stories on the forum now? And where would be best? The thread can always be moved to the Articles section in the future... ;)
VickiPS
Lilli, I love writing. Let me know what you'd like articles about.
Chuckie
Thanks so much guys! Stefan, Thank you for your willingness to share your hard work with us . They are your stories and of course you can post them anywhere you want! But I can't think of a really good place, except maybe the Spawning forum. Maybe it would be better to email the stories to us, and we will give some thought to where to put them, etc, so we can put up a final version rather than spoiling the surprise if they are posted in a thread 1st. But of course it's up to you! Thanks to you too Vicki - you will have a PM from me very soon ;)
splendidbetta
Um, I have waited to share them with you all since around May, so a while longer wont hurt Any chance of telling us when the new section will be set to go? Oh, Lisa, the stories are photographed, so maybe I should just post them into the new section once it's up? Thanks
Chuckie
wish I could tell you when it will be set to go Stefan. If only aaq was our full time job! All I can say is it's being worked on very hard, but the lovely people who do the technical stuff need to sleep sometimes

Mishy
I wrote an article awhile back for the other forum that never got used. It's about destroying the various myths linked to bettas in general. Let me know if you think it's any use.
Chuckie
subject to any copyright issues, that sounds great. If it was never published anywhere on another forum, then it should be fine. Thanks Mishy!!
Canfeleq
I have been working on a couple of articles about feeding. I could email them to you if you're interested. I am also researching genetics and diseases although I am only in the preliminary stages with these.

Mishy
Vicki, was said article that I wrote ever printed or made available? If not, I'll email it to you guys
Fishchick
I didn't think it mattered if it was published else where. You are the author, you retain ownership. It would only apply if you SIGNED an exclusive agreement. Others can't publish your work, but you can. Cheers, J

Cheers, J <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is not correct and can be dangerous. A written agreement is useless if you have agreed to terms and conditions which are publicised. Check what you have agreed to in the past to save yourself, and others associated with this website from a headache.
Chuckie
we won't publish anyting until we confim that it won't breach agreements or otherwise create problems. Thanks guys :)
Phil
Cant you just mix it up a little, change format, and a few words too?
Chuckie
Copyright issues are best discussed in private, IMO.
splendidbetta
Um, I just want to say this: If you have the document saved on your own computer, as your own personal original work, then are you still bound by the copyright agreements? It is not as though you are copying and pasting the work from where it was published. Also, I think that changing even just one word in a document as Phil suggested would 'de-subject' the document to the copyright agreements that were made, because it is then no longer the same original work that was previously published. Just my thoughts I'm no copyright expert...
Chuckie
there is an entire body of law around copyright. Some lawyers specialise in it and are able to make a living from it. I doubt that if the answers were so simple, they'd manage to get away with that, LOL! If you're interested you could start with the Copyright Act. I am not an insomniac so personally I will refrain from reading it! Copyright Act 1968 Copyright Amendment (Digital Agenda) Act 2000 Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :)
Jess
Sounds like fun!! I think if you were to publish an article on a website you would want to make sure, you do not give up any of your rights unwillingly, lose the work to the website due to rigid agreements that change with the wind. You would also want full credit as the author and something in writing that if people can make a copy of you article and display it elsewhere you are again credited as the author. http://creativecommons.org/ is a good site for adding copyright on your work :(
