Figure_8
I couldn't really hazzard a guess without seeing it. It could be any number of things.
Bettarazzi
The ventral fins are the pair of long fins which hang down. What colour is the bump? How large?
SanSuprimo
yes i thought that is what they were called. They are an off-white colour and bout 3/4 the size of a 5 cent peice i will get photos tommorw cant find camera! (so annoying)
Bettarazzi
Sounds a bit strange. 3/4 the size of a 5 cent piece seems rather large on a betta. And it's been growing you say?
SanSuprimo
im so sorry i meant 1/4 of a 5 cent peice they vary a little bit from fish to fish but they haven't seemed to get any bigger than that. it just seems strange that nothing has changed and they are just there if you get what i mean. Celeste84
if you mean their tummies are bulging, they could be constipated, or getting fat o.o but it really is hard to say without a pic :)
SanSuprimo
the pictures are blurry but that's the best that i could get its underneath or just behind the ventral fins. You can see it best on the photo in the middle.
Bettarazzi
They just look well fed to me. Are they still doing poops? You can probably have a fasting day every week.
SanSuprimo
oh well here i was thinking that it was something bad! thats good to hear! well sort of. thankyou.
Bettarazzi
You don't want them to be overweight because as in humans it can cause problems and shorten their lifespan. I suggest you reduce the amount you are feeding. Still feed as often as you are just reduce the amount. For example if you normally feed twice a day, continue to do that but don't feed as much. I'm not sure if your boys can see each other but the other thing you can do is to give them some exercise each day either by using a mirror or allowing them to see each other for say around 15 minutes each day. SanSuprimo
cool. will do i feed twice a day and give them 3 pellets so i will drop it down to 2 and would u still recommend going a day without food or maybe just once? I can make it so they can see each other for a bit i will have a shift around :)
Celeste84
ROFL! my boys look like that every morning, but they work it off during the day :)
Bettarazzi
Just see how they go with a reduced diet. Six pellets doesn't sound like all that much. In the broad scheme of things that can go wrong with your betta, this really isn't a biggie. So just use your judgement.
y2jdaze
i'd give them a fasting day each week, feed them some cooked mushy pea to aid digestion and reduce risk of constipation and cut down to maybe 2 pellets 2ce a day for the rest :)
Callatya
To give you a bit of a guage, their stomach is around the size if their eyeball. It probably can fit 2-3 pellets comfortably, but anything over that and you are asking for tubby bubbies! I'd hold off the food for a day or two just for now, just so you can get an idea of what an empty stomach looks like too. When they are that full, it puts pressure on other things inside there and squashes things, which can lead to more serious problems, so try not to let them scoff so much :)
Ned
whoops... that means my fish wont need to be fed for the next three months. some of them eat up to 10 pellets a day.
SanSuprimo
haha ok well now i know. I will cut them down and see how things go! I also noticed this morning that one of my fish seems to have trouble swimming to the top of the tank and unlike the others he cant just float in the middle he sinks down to the bottom. any idea's there? Bettarazzi
It could be that being overweight is causing problems with his ability to operate his swim bladder properly. Yeah... agree with the others. Better put them on a bit of a diet for a little while to get the weight down. You need to watch the one having swimming problems. You may possibly have to lower the water level to make it easier for him to get to the surface to get a breath. SanSuprimo
I've already done that dropped it down a bit so he doesnt have to go as far up for air. Will keep an eye of him thanks for all your help!
