Betta_Endeavours
I've got my eye on two Steel Blue males and I like both but for different reasons but I can't decide. BLACK HEAD STEEL BLUE OHM MALE - Seller is Chaba Very Nice form Steel Blue Hm - Seller is Kelsonbetta One of them closes in just over a day and a half also. Robbies Betta
Steel Blue, one of my fav colours I'm liking the second one better, but I love the dorsal on the first guy I vote #
y2jdaze
I vote for the 1st one from Chaba :scared:
splendidbetta
They are both very nice fish. It was hard to decide, but I prefer the Kelsonbetta steel more.
Beano
The first one looks more like copper to me than steel. But I'm not a pro. The 2nd one iwth more colouring on the face and head looks better.
Betta_Endeavours
The Second one I found first oddly enough. I was leaning towards that one as being the one I need but it's hard going past the other one because it's really nice. I think the lighting doesn't help Chaba's one but that's just my thoughts on it.
Fishchick
really does depend on what you are aiming to achieve. A traditional steel (no mask/metallic) is becomeing increasingly difficult to find. The Chaba male also has melano genes. The mask male is my preference on form. Robbies Betta
yeah I agree with what someone said, just didn't know how to write it down b4 :scared:
Betta_Endeavours
Darn it. This really really hard now. Is there a place in modern betta keeping/breeding for the traditional steel and is it dying out or just more specialised now?
Robbies Betta
It's basically just the fact that people are breeding all traditional colours to metallics, and we're losing the traditional non-metallic colourations
Betta_Endeavours
So they are disappearing but is it worth keeping a line of them going as pure *traditional* steel or not?
y2jdaze
I'd try to keep the line going... once the fad of metallics is gone we might regret it personally I like the black head just as much as the full mask...but it still goes down to your taste.... OR just bid on BOTH :)
Betta_Endeavours
I like both actually. Which is why I couldn't decide :)
Callatya
I prefer the older colours myself. It isn't that I don't like metallics, it is just that almost everything has metallic in it these days, or is masked.
Betta_Endeavours
I've got bids on both. I believe my royal blue line is tradition. Not sure about the black melano since you can't really tell I like the traditional because they are naturally beautiful. I also like the metallics but that's more of a wow I don't have that sort of thing. I think face with going all one way or the other (having all modern metallics or all traditional) I think I'd go with the traditionals.
splendidbetta
Just because he has a black head doesn't mean he is a real traditional. Chaba might know enough of its background though Remember, the copper (metallic) trait persists in a line for many generations, and is a separate trait from mask. Betta_Endeavours
I didn't think it was that simple. How do you tell a TRUE traditional from one carrying metallic? Also is Lovely OHM-Royal Blue - Seller Nicebettas Metallic or not? He looks gorgeous but I'd swear that blue is metallic from that picture. Robbies Betta
that RB is gorgeous, but I'd agree with Stefan and say Metallic, as you can see a kinda "shine" to the scales :)

Betta_Endeavours
Okay so I won the male from Chaba and have secured a sibling female. He said that they are traditional steel blue with no metallic. Here is the female as photographed by Chaba Would have posted it sooner but needed to get the okay from them first.
