divy
the glass is broken on one of my tanks that i was going to use as a grow out tank, im going to replace it and i mwas just wondering if i can use normal silicon? if not why? cheers
brettc777
I have used normal silicone before and it hasnt harmed fish, However these were cheap fish... if i were to fix up a tank i would use silicone that is recommended for tanks... i think shellys make one that is written on the bottle 'ok for aquariums' its in a light blue container and isnt much dearer then your normal silicone. Callatya
As above There is a specific type of silicon you need. Most have added mould inhibitors, and you don't want these in your tank. There is a Selleys one that specifically states "safe for use on aquariums", so grab that one :D
jusdeb
Im looking at the tube now and its called Selleys glass silicone sealant for windows and aquariums , it cost about $9.00 from mitre ten for 75 g. Directions for tanks are .....allow to cure fully for 7 days prior to use . thoroughly wash out with water and refill before use suitable for construction and repair of small aquariums specialist required for large tanks...contact Selleys. Hope that helps. Oh has a nozzle thing with it . Also comes in big cylinder for about $2.00 more but you need a gun thingy to use it.

Robbies Betta
also, the aquarium one everyone's mentioned would give you SOOO much more peace of mind knowing that there's no way any chemicals will "seep/erode" off the normal silicone and into the water :)
