Slime

Hey guys,

When moving my male bettas into there barracks i noticed a cloudy slime built up on the heaters and some on the filter. The slime looks like Flem (sorry if that grosses out the girls) does anyone know what this is?

The males where in two separate tanks. One was in a 1.5ft tank and the other in a 2ft tank and both had this slime. I do regular 50% water changes every 3 days.

I think what you're describing is similar to what happens with mine and isn't really anything to worry about....maybe a snail or a BN catfish is the answer! of course a picture says a thousand words!

Sorry a cleaned it all out... i could spit in my hand and take a picture of that? lol kidding.

Its pretty easy to imagine. Just think of 5mm thick cloudy (cloudy amonina looking) slime around the top of the heater

that's pretty common, I wouldn't worry about it - just clean it off and go on with your business :unsure:

i get it too, no idea what cuases it, can u imgine how it felt the first time i reached to pluck a suction cup off the glass and got a handfull of slime, euw lol

I think it happens with mainly new rubber that's put into the water. I used to get it on ALL my heaters, but now it doesn't happen, except with new suction caps etc

I get it on all new suction caps and heaters as well. Washing them really well before use seems to help a little. I give them a good going over with a sponge. I hate that slime. I was really quite alarming the first time it happened.

I have it in my community tank hang on filter , thers a cartridge for biological stuff behind the filter cartridge and when I lift it out the slime drips of ( not a morning job) but the instructions say to leave it( Id love to clean it off)....it grows on the heater suction cups and my platys eat it so theres no build up.
