fightingfishfancier
My office recently joined my fish obession and the team purchased a tank, it's a 34L Aqua one 380. In it is a apple snail and a flame dwarf gourami. Yesterday add was 2 balloon mollies. Well it has not been a happy time as the gourami is attacking the balloon mollies. He has been placed in a holdeing cell until we know what to do with him. I'm thinking he's teritorrial. Any suggestions??? Cheers, Heidi on behalf of my workmates. Celeste84
gouramis are related to bettas...so i'd treat him like a male betta - only put in tank mates you'd think would match a male betta's temperament HTH
Jess
If it's a male, he is being territorial. You can take him out for a few days and rearrange the tank and try him again. Pop him back in and hopefully he won't feel he owns the tank. I always do this, it confuses the poor buggers but it works most of the time. (w/ the exception of paired fish like cichlids!) I have kept larger gouramis with all sorts of fish, just got to get them sorted out - habit wise. Good Luck!
Leema
Also, if you were to put in a few more balloon mollies, the aggression would be a bit more dispersed. :)
fuzzy_dragonfly
I have a pair of opaline/blue gouramis (approx 12cm) and the male can sometimes be territorial towards the other fish but usually the female keeps him occupied. Another suggestion is add some bushy plants and places for the other fish to escape.
fightingfishfancier
Thanks for the suggestions. I took him home over the weekend and he's jarred up next to some of my male bettas, seems to be ok. Will take him back to work on Tuesday and do some tank rearrangement and add a few more plants I think. Cheers, Heidi
Mishy
How'd you go Heidi? I had didnt have issues with my guourami's but then again, they were the last to go in.. about 2 weeks after everyone else had their home.
fightingfishfancier
All has gone well with the re- introduction and a change in tank scenery, the balloon mollies give him a wide berth but we are again one big happy family. Thanks for your suggestions and to Mishy for reminding me to let you all know how it went Cheers, Heidi
