luv_my_fish
I had a spawn today, but there was no, and still is no nest. Spawning has finished and there are a fair few eggs, but they are just floating at the surface under the foam cup. They keep falling, but the male keeps picking them up, they go astray, but he chases them and brings them back... Why won't he just make a nest?!?!?!?! Do you think this will end up being successful because of this? I mean, there is no nest WHAT SO EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
little_troppo
Jarrod aka shadoh opaque (white) halfmoon male was doing the same thing and there alive but with SBD
luv_my_fish
Poor fella...I was just watching him, and he put them all in a pile in the corner of the cup and then most of them just all fell to the ground...he is picking them up now. I was thinking about fatherless hatching, but I don't want to risk it. Maybe he will eventually make a nest?
Matt_95
The water tention will hold them up fine, but more will drop and he will be exhuasted.
Yanagi
They don't need a nest to hatch, just gotta be kept cleaned and tended by the father.
luv_my_fish
What if I were to turn the temp up? Would they hatch faster? Would that make a difference?
Fletch
Leave him be. It will be fine. Depending on how much water is in the tank, you could lower the water level so he doesn't have as far to go. Good luck.
luv_my_fish
Well see, the sponge filter I have in there is pretty big and tall, so there is more water in the tank then a usual spawn tank should have. I suppose, I could empty some water and fill it back up if the eggs hatch? I will keep the water I take out so that the chemistry isn't out of whack and kills the fry. luv_my_fish
Well he is still going and picking up and collecting any stray eggs. I feel sorry for him There are a bunch of eggs on the floor that are probably bad now, but there still looks to be heaps on the surface. Oh, I really REALLY hope I get tails!!!
