Callatya
I have a feeling it is a prehistoric-looking bottom-dwelling pondfish, but that doesn't sound romantic enough for producing some of the best caviar around... What is it and what are its requirements?
Figure_8
I'm not quite sure to be honest, but I remember reading something about a sturgeon in a book once which implied they were humungous
Chuckie
I think it's a cartilaginous (sp? - ie not bony) US native river fish, grows huge, and you definitely can't import them as they are protected. They were in a Tank Busters book I once had. No idea what happened to that book ...
d_golem
What is it and what are its requirements? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What is it: A bloody huge coldwter fish that can reach 10 foot or more. What are its requirements: A huge lake or river and some protection from poaching ;)

Callatya
Nah Last time I went on holidays I bought a Koi for my almost-in laws. In a few of the larger ponds they had oodles and oodles of these things that looked like swimming dinosaurs. Apparently the family had 2 in the bottom of their pond. I didn't see them at all the entire time I was there, but I was curious about what they ate and what they needed to survive because the pond, although about 6' deep, was only about 7' x 4', and that seemed rather small for those sturgeon thingies. Figure_8
apparently there are a few different types of sturgeon & they are considered a pond fish in some places - especially europe.
