Robbies Betta
Very nice there Phil Love his ventrals, nice and full how do you tell the level of masking on a gold fish?
Figure_8
nice colour Phil. Is that the beginnings of fin rot or wash on the caudal?
Fishchick
Mick has nice chunky fish! How long ago was the pic? This guy has colmnaris - see the red on the tail end? usually the result of chewing in transit. Treat with furan or protozin. Double the salt and do water changes ever other day for a week (if in 2L or less) The light coloured guys seem to be prone to this. Cheers,J
Phil
What exactly is colmnaris? i thought that was worms? It seems to be on all the fish so i will have to treat the whole barracks. Thanks for the tip J, i will see if i can find those meds tomorrow. Phil
The pic was taken last night, posted virtually right away. i looked it up and it says unusually high temps could be a cause. With the on off temps we have had, do you think that could be the cause? Will multicure instead of the others work?
Fishchick
Columnaris it may not be this, but it is a common bacterial infection I see on shipped fish - they either chew, and the bacteria get in, or the edges of the fins are damaged, and the fish chews because it itches etc. Just keep them clean and add protozin or a good antibiotic. Fishchick
do a water change, up the salt and try the multi - but I think stronger meds are needed. Copper sulphate is cheap - but not sure where you can get small amounts. Um, try hardware, pool shops, chemists, produce store?
Chuckie
I have successfully used Myxazin to treat this, and also TC, and tri-sulfa (and yellow powder...)
Phil
Thanks lisa, i think i will go to petbarn and get TC and Trisulfa, i dont think i can afford the other fancy one!
Fishchick
IF cash is short just get thhe TC. Tri-sulfa has been around for a while, and some strains are resistant to it. Cheers, J
Phil
k, thanks I got the TC, it actually says Flexbacter (columnaris disease) on the bottle. Do you think this could be what is screwing up my wild marble HM? he is still loosing fins and looking worse now?
Chuckie
yep. treat him too. Are any of them in shared water? If so, keep a close eye on them and treat even the first hint of it. it's a bugger once it gets entrenched.
Phil
Other than the wild marble, they were all sharing water so i am treating the whole barracks I put the marble in with them aswell, his colour has come back today and he is eating so something good must be happening Its been 24 hrs since i put the meds in and the redness has left the golds tail, aswell as his female, she had it really bad, she now dosent have the blood on her caudal and she is swimming now Sooo happy about this :)
Chuckie
good Be careful it doesn't cause a cycle though, as TC will affect the filter bacteria. Maybe grab some ammolock to have handy.
Phil
The container says extended use will affect filter bacteria, i might buy some CYCLE and ammolock after i finish treating, Thanks for letting me know
