Bren MacFish
How do you stick backing paper to the outside of the tank evenly? Bren
Anasfire
Um, I tape it to one end so it's level with the vertical edge of the tank, stretch it along, tape at top and bottom then using a craft knife flush against the other vertical end, cut it off, taping as I go to get a clean cut....then more tape and you're done. :eadshake:
Bettarazzi
I've never used backing paper before. What makes it difficult to stick on?
Anasfire
It curls :eadshake: and it isn't adhesive....that's all I can think of.
Bren MacFish
Yeah, that's the problem. It needs to sit flat against the glass so that viewed through the glass from the inside it's even in colour. I heard someone talking about some kind of vaseline or something they used to adhere it to the glass? :eadshake:
Bettarazzi
What about just using some double sided tape?
Chuckie
i have used vegetable oil to adhere it. worked ok.
Bettarazzi
If you had a trickle filter system I could probably construct some kind of joke about sump oil. :)
splendidbetta
If using oils around fish, please don't let any enter the water. It can cause harm, or so I've read.
Callatya
I generally just paint the back with acrylic black paint, but if I'm using the rolls of stuff and want a bright finish, i use mineral oil and a squeegee. I cut the backing to fit the glass exactly. Bubbles look lousy and tend to become permanent warps, as do the gaps caused by the paper going over the edge strips, so take your time and redo it if you need to. Or pimafix. I do have enough hand/eye coordination to keep the oil on the extermal glass!
