DV.
it's been a while but i've finally gone from this: http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee250/d...er/IMG_0512.jpg to this: http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee250/d...er/IMG_0513.jpg http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee250/d...er/IMG_0514.jpg Not much i know, i just added - the log, Micro sword, long pink and green things at the back ?, a hand full of neons and a light. Trying to find the "right" rock for the left hand side and maybe a Black Sword plant or a Giant Hygro. something big, green and hard to kill. And possibly another piece of wood. any ideas? Callatya
Ohhh! I like! Pink/green things are val, but not sure what type specifically. They look fabbo! It is begging for a background black would make those colours really pop :)
Stuart Elflett
Too true, Callatya - a background would make a huge difference to the look of the tank, and it also helps light the tank by reflecting it back in... at it's simplest, find a picture of a planted tank with a similar reedy background to what you have going there, do some laser prints of it (because they're waterproof) and tape it to the back - that makes for a very instant illusion of depth in the tank... y2jdaze
did mr betta get evicted?
DV.
yeah, he's back in his own tank. There's no one there to fight. i think he likes it there, because he can swim into the bubbles from the filter and get flipped around.
Daniel
kinda looks like val nana, but i havnt grown it personally so im unsure of the growth habits, great start to your planted tank journey :(
DV.
I changed the gravel to something a bit darker. I also added some new plants. and 5 glass shrimp. Is there any limit to how many of these i can have? Pics to come.
Stuart Elflett
There is theoretically a limit, they're tiny but they do still add to the bioload of the tank... I have 40+ in a 21L with ten neons and a pair of rams, and it's stable on 10% water change a week - bear in mind they need food, filtration, and space, in numbers - I think I've seen keep it to less than 100 in 60L, but that's probably also to allow for the gains from breeding... DV.
i love the way my shrimp arc up any time a cory swims close by. i might make something similar to this in the back right hand corner. Is hot glue gun glue safe for aquariums. oh and my betta has moved on to a new home.

Stuart Elflett
What shrimp do you actually have there?? They look larger than a Paratya australensis, and I'd be surprise if Cardinia longistris would rear up at fish approaching - Machrobrachium spp. might though - do they have claws an a long, serrated nose like a knife blade?? DV.
can't tell right now cos they're hiding out in the log. but the sign on the tank i bought them from had 'glass shrimp' on it and the receipt had 'feeder fish', so who knows. they are out! yeah the nose is pretty long, i don't know about serrated though Edited September 21, 2007 by DV. Callatya
I'll bet they are baby macros, they come through as feeders quite often in summer. While they are small, you should be fine, but when they get a bit bigger they are incredibly good hunters. *hunts for a photo* I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new changes! it looks fantastic! DV.
thanks Callatya. i just finished changing it again.(last time for a while) i take some pics tomorrow
Stuart Elflett
I'd think Macrobrachium too, just for the behaviour... mine don't bother avoiding the fish much these days, unless a ram is REALLY inquisitive, but none of the Paratya even look like they're trying to rear up at the fish... Goodnight
It's really coming along. You've given me some ideas for my own 70L tank that I'm slowly getting to the point of planting and stocking. Definitely thinking about getting some shrimp.
