Sarah
Just noticed one of our neon tetras is by the water surface, and is gulping air. They aren't labyrinth fish so.. anyone know what this could be? It can also swim away too. Edited November 12, 2010 by Sarah
Yanagi
Low oxygen/high heat will make fish gasp, so can poor water quality. Fish on deaths door tend to do this as well.
Sarah
Thank you. I'll tell dad.. it's his tank. :)
Fletch
Could be low oxygen or they could have a gill problem. Are the gills red? Would do water change and treat with multicure which covers most things. I would do it asap as more fish will follow. If gills are burnt due to ammonia then not much you can do. :-( Good luck

Yanagi
Medication for what? Have you found out what the problem is?
shadoh
Yan, Sarah mentioned a bacterial infection in her status, so guess that's it...
Yanagi
Ah ok, I missed that. With a bacterial infection I would of expected to hear about visible symptoms, rather than just gasping though. Hope they get better soon.
Sarah
No this on different fish in the tank. There is an bacterial infection on some SAE. We will dose them now.
