foxtail
Hey guys Just wondering if i can use a fire extinguisher as co2 bottle for planted tank.? If it is possible what do i have to do to convert it? Thanx Aaron
fishbites
It's possible Aaron but fire extinguishers propel liquid which turns to gas on exit from the extinguisher I think - therefore you would need to do some kind of conversion to use CO2 for a tank - you only want gas coming out not liquid gas. Fittings might be hard to come by for them too but others on here know more about pressurised CO2 than me and could offer more help.
Ghengis
Is it also something to do with food grade CO2 for an aquarium, whereas extinugishers use a different grade? Or did I dream it??
fishbites
Getting it refilled with food grade gas might be the issue Ghengis? Cylinders have to be tested and stamped as ok before anyone will usually fill them and a modified fire extinguisher might be difficult to get that done to it. If it is an old cylinder it might be a prob too because they usually only recertify them for 10 years don't they ?
