I am going to drum the water from the tanks and take that with, put the sponge filters on battery air pumps in buckets of old water and move them down there so in theory the empty tanks should be cycled when filled, right??? fishbites Posted January 14, 2012 Report Share Posted January 14, 2012 the sponge filters should be enough.... nitrifying bacteria doesn't live in open water.... a minimal amount will be in the gravel from the existing tanks but the sponge filters should be enough to get your tanks going.... as long as the new tanks have fresh de-chlorinated water in them the sponges should be fine.... I figured, seeing as my tanks are basically nothing but water, sponge and a bit of decoration I should be right.
