brettc777 Posted August 31, 2007 Report Share Posted August 31, 2007 In my fish/computer room i have a four foot fluro.... if i got a 14,000k light bulb for it do you think it would give off enough light to keeps plants alive in all my tanks in the room? ill give you the dimensions of the room.... its about 4.2m long 3m wide 2.4m high... not sure if that info would help. Callatya Posted September 1, 2007 Report Share Posted September 1, 2007 yup, thats a reef tube! i'd be aiming for 6,700-10,000k. Chances are that the ceiling light won't be strong enough to light the room and light the tank. That is a lot of distance to travel, and the further away from the source the light gets, the weaker it becomes. At that sort of distance I imagine the WPG thing becomes very hard to judge what you are actually geting in the tank itself. You could try, but IMO you'd be better off going with a strong daylight globe for your room light and lighting the tank separately, maybe even just getting some desk lights with screw-in fluro bulbs to spot light plants in the tank, or maybe getting a 2' light and planting well where the light reaches and lightly elsewhere.
