jumper
ok while having my lunch just now, i had this weird idea of trying to run a canister filter 2800 ltr/ hr from 3 X 3ft aquariums. Would that be possible/feasible? worthwhile? At the moment each of those only have a bubbler ( just bubbles thing), and 2 sponge filters. Aquarium 1 - father with fry experiment (probably only going to attach the canister for it when fry are grown) Aquarium 2 - maybe subdivide and create compartments for individual males Aquarium 3 - female community tank? at the moment 2 & 3 are still unsure. but would be nice if that one pump could do all those 3 aquariums let me know your thoughts! thanks! Jess
I wouldn't run that on 3 tanks for bettas. 2800L is a lot of flow. Maybe for 3x standard 4ft tanks I would run 2800L cannister. I would buy a large air pump and run sponge filters off them. The larger the better because you can run more tanks down the track You can adjust the flow right down when breeding and then turn them back up. You can use the airpump to run a filter for a QT tank as well. I have used one large pump to run 4 x 2ft tanks and supply bubbles to a 4ft. Only uses one power outlet too! jumper
i see... i am using the sponge-o-filter method right now, nothing wrong with it IMO. maybe its just me trying to do more "home" stuff... but on the other side.... would this canister be good for a say betta barracks? or would it be too much flow still? Jess
Personally, I would use a pump for betta barracks and use a sump as your filter. Because pumps are cheaper to replace and sumps are large enough to hold the heater and lost of media for filtration.
jumper
i think you are right on that... but how to run 3 tanks into one sump ? i've got no idea on how to do something like that.... maybe have some serious piping happening at the back ? wouldnt that at the end not be as cost effective?
