lady0421
Has anyone used one of these?? Atison's Betta Spa Is it effective and can it be used with other fish other than bettas? On the instructrions, it says "Do not add salt to the water" - does that mean not to add aquarium salt into the tank if we were to use the Betta Spa? Callatya
Betta Spa contains salt already, so if you add extra salt you'll probably greatly increase the SG of the water. Its fine to use with other acid-loving fish, but not for things that prefer harder, or alkaline water. What type of fish were you thinking of? (Its probably cheaper to get Ketapang extract and use that, if thats any consideration)
lady0421
Just silver sharks - are Ketapang extracts available in Australia?
Callatya
yup, someone has the liquid in bottles, and I think i've spotted it in one or two shops. I think it is about $10-15? It has been a while since I bought any. Is Atison's stuff available here yet? I haven't seen it around.
lady0421
Going to do a quick search for it - otherwise I may have to contact someone if there isn't any in Brisbane. I only learn about it from Fiona - it was sold on e-bay - more fishy shopping to do ^^
splendidbetta
I bought a 1L bottle from JL at the start of this year for $50 or so. Not sure whether the catappa costs the same now :)
lady0421
Does the Ketapang extracts stain the tank water as well?? I was only able to find some expired BWE at Petwise the other day (expiry date Sep 2004, kind of shocking).
splendidbetta
Yes, Ketapang turns the water yellow/brown.
Guest fishngym
One of the LFS up here sells it. It is located at Urangan in Hervey Bay He said that he is the only importer in Aus of the stuff. It sells for about $36 for the 500ml (it is listed on the site as $40) $15.95 for 125ml. I have used a sample of it with a couple of breeders. Unfortunately I put too much in and they didnt spawn. I had two pairs with Betta Spa and two without going at the same time. The ones without were successful. I have since purchased Ketapang Extract from someone as it was cheaper. You will get almost double the amount of extract if you purchase the extract from someone. Either one would be suitable for your fish I use OCEAN NUTRITION ATISON BETTA someone FOOD 75g as part of our food rotation. Our bettas love it. It is also available from aquahobby. The internet site is aquahobby.com.au. They are nice people and will look after you. They also sell on Ebay. Cheers Marc
