Single Betta Tank

I've never seen it advertised again, but it was shaped more like a lolly or nut dispenser than a betta tank. You know the dispensers where you take your cup or bag and scoop out lollies with a big metal scoop from under the flap at the bottom of the dispenser? Well imagine a row of acrylic lolly dispensers but each one has water and a betta in it. Instead of a flap at the bottom there was a grate and underneath that a screw top lid/bung to let the dirty water out. It looked like the love child of an illicit affair between a lolly dispenser and an upside down coke bottle. Cleaning would be a matter of wiping off the walls, waiting for it to settle and taking the bung off so half the water ran out. The grate keeps the betta from making a bid for freedom but lets the dirt accumulate in the funnel at the bottom. Naturally you'd mount it on a wall so not a beautiful addition to a lounge room. Has anyone else seen this type of betta tank, or did I imagine it in a water change induced dream somewhere?

Those betta tanks are home made !!! What an idea ! Hmm could use some adjustments but I think I could make one. And we have the perfect betta to add to the bowl! He's been waiting for a bigger home for a while but we haven't got around to making it.

Ummmm... those look awful! That's almost as bad as the "blender" fish tanks you can get at The Warehouse! I didn't mean a gumball machine. I meant those lolly dispensers you find at the cinema or your local nuthouse where you dish yourself lollies into a paper cup or bag.

OK it's not perfect but this gives you an idea, the little versions listed on e-bay look a bit uncomfortable so I made a bigger version . It's Paul's tank of course he wanted a bulldogs desgin.

The bowl hold approx 1 gallon (around 3-4L). I'm going to work on ways to heat the tank from under the pot and putting some lighting in as well. Dad's the electronics freak so we'll work on something together. I'm also going to add a proper plant to the tank, it has duckweed so far.

For the moment El Magic the fish is fine . He's got more space in this tank then he did in his holding jar and he will still recieve frequent water changes. He was one of the runts from my CT spawn, but he's grown a bit!

What else do you think the tank needs? Any suggestions as to how we might go about making an under tank heater and light?

Forgot to mention, the Bulldogs emblem is handpainted and pom pom bulldog are is home made. The whole thing cost me approx $13 not including the paint to make, the bowl was the most expensive part. It's a fuzzy tank complete with fuzzy fish .

Maybe a light globe in the pot to heat the bowl? You would have to experiment with it to get the wattage\temp right (minus fish, of course, you don't want to cook him ) It would add an unusual lighting effect too. BTW, well done - it looks great!

Paul's heating it with a 25W desk lamp and it seems to be doing the trick . There are a couple heating options we'll need to investigate which would be most appropriate (most likely a mini aquarium heater of some sort).
