afr3178
Is it possible that egg eating is related to temperature? I have a male, that last spawn ate all the eggs. I bumped the temperature up 5 degrees from 24.5 to 29.5. So far, it looks like he is depositing the eggs in the nest but I am collecting some just in case. Could this be right? CNgo2006
From my experience it has more to do with experience and maturity...and then there are those who are addicted to eating eggs and can't kick the habit!
Bettarazzi
29 deg is well within normal tropical temperatures. I still think they eat eggs which are either infertile or not developing properly. However if you suspect a serial egg eater then just remove him. Last time I did that I still had a decent hatch. Some eggs floated some sank a few fungused. But still got a good hatch.
afr3178
It was just a theory, more saying that is it possible lower temperatures will make a male eat the eggs. I removed the male this time anyway as I desperately want a spawn and am too paranoid to risk it lol.
CNgo2006
I have had males eat fry as well. So the eggs were fertile as they hatched just wasn't ready for the responsibility of being dad yet I guess.
