Masquerade
After a long slide downhill my LFS has shut its doors. It was never the worlds best LFS, I didn't even shop there, but it's gone. That basically means that, while there are other, better, fish shops and supply shops close by I do have to go out of my way to access them, which means I have to ask my parents for lifts. They don't like giving me lifts just so I can by "more stuff which you don't need" so the whole experience can be painful from time to time. This brought me to notice that the silk plants I bought mere weeks ago are beginning to show signs of wear, the actual silk ones are fraying where darling has pinched and held on and the plastic fern is growing sparser by the day, which ticks me off because I forked at least ten dollars a piece for them, thinking that they would last me for years and hence would be worth the investment. I suppose yabbies really do live up to their names. They shouldn't need replacing for at least a month, probably two, but they will need replacing so I've been looking at online shops in the hopes of finding better prices. So far I've found two promising ones http://www.theaquariumshop.com.au and https://www.aco-aquariums.com.au, which seem to have decent enough value and they're based reasonably close to home. Has anyone had experience with these shops, or have any recommendations? I feel a bit reluctant to order from over seas. I don't know why seeing as scams are everywhere, not just overseas. Never the less I would like to hear about any of your experiences for this sort of shopping and recommendations would be much loved. But just for the record, I would prefer to steer well clear of ebay. Hold up! I found this website : http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au which is selling tetra water wonders (which I payed through the nose for) for less than three dollars each! This seems far too good to be true, can anybody verify if this one is a scam or not? Edited February 8, 2012 by Masquerade
Neffy
Ive used Age of aquariums i really like it because they are priced reasonably AND you only ever pay $7.50 on freight so i got some 2-5kg bags of substrate for A STEAL (well compared to what shops where quoting me) it was well packaged and quick! I have also used http://www.livefish.com.au/ with good results Edited February 7, 2012 by Neffy

Wild Nut
I use http://www.aquariumsupermarket.com.au, which although a little bit more pricey than some online stores, has always provided me with excellent service. In fact the other day they sent me a free 500ml bottle of Prime with the one I'd ordered. http://www.livefish.com.au/ is good for basic plants and fish. http://www.liverpoolcreekaquariums.com is a good one if you after something a little more unique. I have also used AOA and have found it to be pretty competitively priced, and the shipping cost is an added bonus. I usually get my lights and ferts from http://www.guppysaquariumproducts.com.au, and have never had any problems at all. Plus the prices on some of their stock is really cheap. Masquerade
Great, thanks for all the different sites, I'll be sure to check them out. Speaking of lights, when do fluro's need to be replaced, if ever? I've been using the same fluros that came with my set up since I got it, which must be at least 4 years. They don't flicker or seem to dim at all, but I do wonder.
Wild Nut
I have heard if you have live plants that they should be replaced once a year as the plants can no longer 'see' the light. However, I wouldn't think it would matter that much if you only have fake plants in there. I used to use this old fossil of a fluro over my tanks and never had any issues. fishbites
Live plants will be trashed by an electric blue marron or yabbie or whatever it is you have.... don't waste your money..... Age of Aquariums is a great online retailer with bricks and mortar in Brisbane - and you can't beat their freight price - $7.50 anywhere!!!!! Have ordered through them before on many occasions and they are also great supporters of the aquarium industry via sponsorships, donations of prizes, etc.... Try someone at fishchicks aquatics as well - someone has lots of great Betta and small cichlid / guppy gear including driftwood, etc and will post anywhere that's legal as well....
