  1. Hey Fish36, Rilli (Cherry) Shrimp generally have patches of red over a clear (or blue tinge) base. The most common rilli pattern is for a full coloured head and tails with a clear mid section. There are reds (over clear or blue base), carbon (black over blue base), yellows, Sunkist lines being bred. Have not seen many half/half. May be worth trying to selective breed the characteristic into it's own line, as it sounds like a nice variation. Would be great to see an image when you can.
  2. There's so many different variations on the abbreviations. SW. Snow White bee GB. Golden bee Careful with Rilli, there is red rilli, red rilli blue gene, carbon rilli and some are starting to breed yellow rillis now. Blue cherry shrimp are generally known as Blue Velvet (from rilli) Hope this helps

    Hi

Welcome to the forum Cathryn. What types of Killifish are you looking to keep? Great to see another Western Victorian on here!! Though I have not been on here much lately. There are some really experienced members about, so put your questions out there and they will help you out. Cheers, JamieC
  4. Phillips books are an awesome source of information on Guppy genetics, cant wait for mine to arrive. Have all the others. Highly recommended.

    Guppie Shopping

You've found some beautiful fish there Les. The yellow pingus are amazing, great to see their fry. Cheers,

    Two new guys

Great looking guppies les. Awesome yellow colouration. cheers
  7. The genetics can be full on. Thats the part i enjoy (could never be considered an artist me). If you cross a male moscow to one of your lace females you may end up with black bodied bubs with beautiful lace tails. I wouldn't cross them, they are stunning as they are, but definitely deserve their own tank.
  8. Hey Ness, Great choice for your first Guppies. They are painful to photograph but you did an awesome job. So these are basically the result of a red lace female crossed with either a blue or black moscow male. Lovely fish. The books available from guppy designer go into great details about genetics and breeding, great reference. Good luck with the beautiful new additions. Cheers

    Guppie genetics

Hi guys, I would highly recommend the guppydesigner.com website. (sorry, if i am not allowed to do that, mods please remove my post, but please dont ban me!!) The Guppy Colour strains book by Phillip Shaddock is Pure Gold when it comes to genetics and cross breeding for variations. Worth every cent and mine was delivered within a week. Alot of the females carry the genes for tail colour, i would cross your strongest/best male to a female with bright red fins, maybe a full red. The Hb should be dominant from the male as body colour and the fins should hopefully come from the mum. someone may have a suitable female for you. I think if you use an albino as a cross you may make your half black more a dull grey, but not totally certain of that. I am only just coming to understand the genetics of the wonderful guppy but will let you know if similar crosses i am doing bring the desired outcomes. All the best. Cheers, JamieC PS. May have some wilds in the near future, if interested pm me.
  10. Now that is the Best suggestion so far!! Don't think I'll risk suggeting it to the other half though.
  11. Thanks for the feedback guys and gals. I think a comfy chair will have to be added. No questions. Thanks for the workbench suggestion, would have thought of that too late and am always looking for some work space as it is. Willhave a bar fridge, mainly for frozen and live foods but may have a cheeky beer or two. Pipe into the garden is next on the list, concrete can be walked on from tomorrow, can't wait.....
  12. Couldn't resist putting in the Stoneface. Have had it for over 5 years and never had the right home. He can now be the Shrimp Idol!!
  13. I never thought I would see the day when I would be so excited about concrete, but today is that day!! We have had a visit from the Fishroom Fairy Godmother and she left me a new floor in my garage, half which has been allocated as a fishroom. Should be 4.5 metres wide by about 3.5 metres deep all up. The fishroom portion, not the concrete!! Once dry, I will be insulating and putting up new walls and a ceiling, hmm the dream is developing slowly. All the fish have been relocated to a temporary residence in my stable, converted into a tool shed. The divided three footer was kindly provided by Ray, Big Thanks Ray!! It meant I could get me a selection of Betta. Will keep you posted as the fishroom develops. Sorry for blurry pics. God I love concrete......
  14. Well, after being inspired by a visit to Joan's place on my recent holidays I had to do it. I am now housing some Cherry shrimp in a newly setup Shrimp Tank. Around 70L, using 2 x 2kg bags of Up Aqua Shrimp Soil. The PH settled in only two days, due to my tank water being close to 6.5. Using only a 50W heater so it is constantly running and gradually changing the temp. Temp now stable at 24 degrees. Holidays are dangerous things, plants from many forum members around the country, Thank you all. The shrimp have been in for almost a week and seem quite comfortable.
