Hello!

Hello to everyone and I hope you are well!

Since I am not entirely sure what to write I hope the following is coherent: I am a university student in her mid twenties studying Biomedical Science and now the proud mum of a male Veil-tailed blue Betta called Kaida ('little dragon').

The bowl I was sold at the pet store on Easter Saturday was scarcely big enough for him to be able to float in and I instinctively knew something was wrong with the picture, getting him an 8 litre tank the moment the shops opened after the Easter break.

I found and joined a website online that has been amazingly helpful, but is unfortunately american in origin and so often alludes to products, brands and breeders that I cannot access and was referred here by some of their Australian members.

I look forward to meeting you all.

I am in Newcastle right now, in the University of Newcastle Biomed program. Loving it a lot and was rather grateful for my genetics module when I accidentally stumbled onto a breeders stats page. I read half the example spreadsheet before my brain melted :P

I am stopping by a marine store tomorrow for an heater and have a thermometer monitoring him for now. I suspect he will be the first of many. If only I had more desk space...

Give it time you'll MAKE the desk space.

yeah the genetics are quite full on especially since you've got form and colour to try figure out

my head melts when they start adding in irids, opaques and metallics for colours but ill get there one day...

there's some amazing fish out there just you wait you'll start looking around on here and realize you want every fish there's a picture of pretty much :P

I have actually already had a look on Aquabid and sternly told myself no going back...for now.

I would possibly feel bad shopping on there to be honest. Buying a lovely pet is one thing, but I have no intention to breed and knowing I was outbidding someone on the hunt for the perfect fish would guilt at me for weeks.

I have a particular love of bi colors already growing, especially in cooler shades. Lets see how long my resolve lasts.

Haha I find spawn logs on here are the worst the parents are so good looking and the Kids are so cute and so cheap compared to aquabid(after import costs etc aquabid can be very pricey) and a lot are local. NSW has a bustling Betta scene :)

I'm suprised to find that out really. The pet store near me has not stocked all that many from what i can tell and google searching betta information or communities defaulted me to either american or even translated malaysian websites. Looking for equipment stockists kept popping up with specialist marine stores that didnt even sell Betta equipment :/

I am looking forward to seeing what is available!
