monroe1
Hi! Just wanted to ask if there is any way aside from pulling out & scrubbing, to keep wood smelling foul to a minimum? I have an issue with my mopani (sp) reeking to high heaven after only 1 or 2 weeks.. I keep catfish & loaches in there with it & the water is contantly flowing & treated but the wood still ends up nasty. Also is it something I should worry about possibly making my community ill? Matt_95
A picture would really help us here. Is it blackening? growing fungus? Where does the smell originate from? The base? It might be going anaerobic.
monroe1
Pictures won't help atm as I've just scrubbed it down again... It's growing a light opaque slimy fungus on the underside & stays clean all along the top & sides I suppose a lack of oxygen could be an issue?? As it's only the part of the wood that's making contact with the substrate that's being affected. There is a strong filter working at the top of the tank but perhaps I need to look at something underneath as well???
fishbites
if its the wood that's smelling - perhaps try boiling it or put it in boiling water a few times to get any thing in the wood to leech out....
