fishish
:D lol simple question that I don't think has been addressed in previous lighting threads. My tank is 77cm length, ie neither 2ft or 3ft! Not sure whats best to do. Someone suggested I get a 3ft as if i get a 2ft then there may be some un-illuminated bits. However the stand thing would be over the edge and apparently they can't sit directly on the glass as they overheat. Sooo... 2ft? I contacted one of the sales people at an online store with the above question. I included info of my current light saying I need a new one as its no good and the response I got was nothing more, nothing less than "any light is better than a T8 18watt" (my current light) mmm yes... thank you for that very insightfull response! HELP! :P
fishbites
umm.... get fish to seek planning approval and build an extension to their tank unfortunately non standard tanks aren't catered for with custom lights.... some t5 lights have plastic stands that slide along grooves in the aluminium housing and can therefore sit above your tank easily... but you will have about 5" of light fitting over at the end.... alternatively... you could hang the light from the ceiling above the tank... like this
fishish
umm.... get fish to seek planning approval and build an extension to their tank They've agreed! lol thanks. Think I'll go for that 3ft, if it fails it will be a good excuse to buy a 3ft tank to go with the light that hangy thing feels a bit scary without seeing a real life example first :P
unissuh
Whats the tank got in it that needs the light? Making poles to hang the lights from is easy if you have the right tools (something to cut aluminium with and drill a few holes). Will take you two hours or so tops, not including buying supplies at Bunnings. Simplest is just to bolt it to the back of the stand if you don't mind drilling a couple of holes. EDIT: Putting a simple one together: http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/7800/dsc00724m.jpg http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/9486/dsc00733m.jpg http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/2548/dsc00737c.jpg http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/7382/dsc00836dx.jpg http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/5562/dsc00841y.jpg Ok, it was for a salty, but same idea. fishish
Thanks very much hmmm... not sure if im enough of a tom boy or not I've got Amazon swords in there, i don't know if they're already too far gone to be honest the java moss looks a bit sad too lol
unissuh
Yeah, I'd probably go for a 3' if you can't hang the light. Don't go for something too overpowered though. Perhaps a silly question but why not just get another cheap 2' light? I think that would make it just about right.
fishish
I think drilling holes into the wall would be the issue. Not to say that I don't can't imagine something going disasterously wrong with me drilling holes lol Yeah considered x2 lights... wouldn't look so grand though.
