  1. Maury Doesnt seem to have any trouble swimming around and im verry careful not to over feed him usually about five of his little pellets twice a day. the pellets are the really small ones about a millimeter in width. I was wondering if the behavior might actually be a type of play since his only tank companions are his snails or if it had to do with the proportions of his body and tail his totall length is about four inches and 2/3 of that is tail. ive saved melbourne bettas list of treets to my desktop ( my memmory has more holes then a tuna net) so i can try them as available.
  2. Hi All About a year or so ago I purchased my first Black Moor Goldfish (Maury). Ive had several fish in my life including the regular mystery breed goldfish from the local pet store and couple from fairs but Maury is the first that seems to enjoy swimming and floating/sleeping upside down. The only other time I've heard of a fish swimming upside down is one that lived in a lab that studdied earthquakes. The science types that at first thought the fish dead soon learned to watch the fish and when he went belly up to turn their eyes to the siesmographs since the fish only displayed the behavior preceding an earthquake. As to Maury well the only noticable earhtquake we've had in New york state in my memmory was this last summer and I was on the wrong side of town to feel it . SO why does Maury like to Smim upside down so much, well when hes not pestering the ramshorn snails that is lol.
  3. If you read this yes the plastic leaves can rip fins but if you wanted to use them you could use the lighter again and melt the edges till there are no more shap bits i did this with a plastic flower pot for swim holesand ended up letting one float free in the tank the betta (may he R.i.p)that i had at the time loved it! also had one of those leaves from the pet store but i couldnt always get it to just the right level for his highness though the few times i was closei did ocassionally see him use it if he thought i wasnt looking lol.
  4. Hi, Wow long time since ive been on ausaqua where did the summer go? Anybhow if your still interested Pictus catfish can live with tiger barbs and other fish lot prettier then the bristlnose. They are a kind of silery white color with clear fins and black spots/freckles on fins and body theyre verry active swimmers and double up for clean up
  5. wow the one at the top of post 22 instant pretty whish i had him reaction
  6. snails are supposed to like cucumbers for reason so whetever is clinging to a piece of cucumber the next day can ideally be removed then you can put the snail laden cucumber on/in something and take the salt shaker to it till all youve got left is salted shells and slime vinegar also works probably because its highly acidic
  7. *Oh and one more thing - when you see a clown loach laying on its side - don't reach into the tank to take it out - its not dead - just pretending - got caught by one of mine (rotten damned thing scared the hell out of me when it scooted off as my hand got near it!)* LOL I have had similar experience with several animal species. but i dont think i can use the loaches as my tank is a ten gallon and someone on another thread said they needed a bigger tank. If they do become a problem i can always toss in a piece of cucumber and salt them the next day, but i hate waste and killing something needlesly. Still open to any suggestions though
  8. Hi, The past two mornings ive woken to a surprise my bettas belly was verry full. I do have a few feeder guppies in his part of the tank but so at first i thought he was eating them but I did a 50% water change yesterday, redid the layout in my tank and discovered several baby snails in a certain pineapple ornament. I already knew about one snail that hitched in on an order possibly a duckwead etc mix or in the java fern i received the same day and of course i have my mystery snail though the babies dont look like either of these two. I havent noticed any change in guppy numbers so my question is this could he be eating the snails or the duckwead and if hes not eating the snails any one know of a betta guppy friendly fish that will eat a few extra Garys withought munching on plants and can survive on something else when the snails are gone? thank you from America

    Guppies

Lol I think part of it was too many males and not enough females (went and purchased more femalestail blacklessened) also sligtht feelings of threat from presence of betta may be factor:)
  10. Maybe try the bright green plant toward the back center remove light brown rock in middle and maybe add a smaller red like left rock to the right side and put a short bushier plant where light brown rock is or some java moss in patches/paths on bottom/ Howmanny gallons is the new tank will you be using the same fish what kinds?

    Guppies

Hi, Pretty pictures love the red half black but not sure thats why mine turned two of my males are pet store fancy andthe others are just common feeder fish the color change happened after i put the two fancty males in with the feeders I was thinking it might be a display of territorial or aggression

  14. We actually dont have any fish pet stores in town and land wise its actually a big town/village. nearest pet store is about ten-fifteen minutes away ? Luckily the local Kinneys drugs sell the dry food that i use so when i finally run out i can get it there cheaper then the same exact food at the pet store too. WOW another surprise its actually made in USA most of our merchandise seems to come from china jappan or taiwan. I did ask the girl working at the pet store why they didnt have any plants in and her excuse was its too cold!! Funny that the local florist has no problem getting in plenty of cut flowers and a lot of those come from south america and mexico.
  15. thank you i think ill wait till summer for water sprite when i will have my curtains open and get some sun lol
