I don't like to buy non-vegetarian products full stop. Yeast often has preservatives added (I've found none with no preservatives), and these preservatives are chicken-derived.

MW cultures only last a few weeks... So then do you chuck them? I'd feel mean. I'm a bit of a sook. :D
