Goody3714 Posted May 9, 2010 Report Share Posted May 9, 2010 Ok so ive got a few questions on my mind and was wondering if any one could help me out 1) Ive got a large sea shell was thinking about putting it in my fw trop tank its rather huge and would make a good cave is thier any problem with a shell in fw ? 2) was also thinking about making a cave out of a base of a fern the tall tree like ferns any one know what im talking about not sure if would be good or bad in an aquarium ? 3)how long do you leave you IAL in your tank before you change it and put in a new one ? Anasfire Posted May 9, 2010 Report Share Posted May 9, 2010 I can only attempt to answer #1 and #3. #1 - if you cleaned the shell well enough, maybe even gave it a soak in some weakly bleached water overnight then rinsed it well and dried it in the sun, I can't see any reason not to use it in a fresh water tank #3 I leave my IAL in the tank until it's started disintegrating, sometimes longer lol. I just suck what's left of it up with the siphon when I do a WC. Although in my tanks that have BN it ends up getting eaten as it disintegrates so I don't need to remove it. I put new IAL into my tanks at each water change or every 2-4 weeks...depending on how quickly it's disintegrating and no longer releasing tannins to colour the water Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
