gb86217
Sorry to bother you gus again, Just had a broken heart moment. bought a pair of white HM last week from someone, they were in perfect condition, today I just found there are splits on the tail and a small piece is missing, don't know how it happened, looks like he chewed it off, the wound is kind of pink color. I change water about 1/3 every three days and keep them in a 16* 16 * 16 cm tank with a piece of IAL. too late to find my camera tonight, will get some pic tomorrow. anybody know what happened? feel sorry for being a bad parent :fish:
Chuckie
He probably chewed it, or it is finrot. You can add some salt to the water to help it heal. I can't ever remember the tsp/litre but someone will hopefully chip in. Also have a look at the stick/pinned topic in the Clinic about Treating Finrot in Australia. Can he see the female or other fish? Is the tank heated? Any ornaments that he could have torn his fins on :fish:
littleangel
just to add.... do you have any plants? i had the same thing a couple of day ago. and finally realized it was the plants that i had in there i was told it was 'the softest thing you can get' and it still tore his tail. i treated with salt water as well as some bettafix salt water bath - 1 Teaspoon - Tablespoon for about 3.5 litres i just started with the smaller amount (dissolving it before i put it in) and added it. kept and eye on him and over the next couple of days (to see if his tail was looking better, and if the salt was bothering him) added a little more - as i didnt want to shock him with the change either. plus everyone says different amounts of salt ranging between the two. hope this helps
gb86217
Thanks you guys, Yes, like angel said I had some plants in the tank, I'll take them out now and try the salt. Also I just got bettafix from the LFS, so hopefully it will help.
Chuckie
remember to dissolve the salt before you add it, or you can burn them.
gb86217
Thank you so much, I will do a water change now and add the salt to the new water before I put it in. We get quite good temperature here in Wollongong, water is around 25 to 28 C Here are the pics Just doing a water change so the level is low
hobbygodz
Hey Ben, salted tank should be 1 tespoon per 10 liters. Use only rocksalt or sea salt. Table salt is a no-go as it contains an anti-caking agent which is toxic to your fish. Cheers, Brad.
Chuckie
oops, thanks Brad - I forgot to mention that. Your betta is beautiful, Ben!

zhong89
I have a questions, um... from the looks of your tank you have banana lilies with your betta fish. From what I can remember banana lilies needs alot of light to able to grow and thrive and betta fishes hate strong light. Could that apart of the reason that your betta is a little stressed? Could that apart of the reason that your betta is a little stressed? ummm, not really, I keep them on my desk and behind a stack of books, just normal sun light, not direct. Thank you for let me know they called banana lilies, don't know what they called. LFS said they are ok...
Chuckie
Just a reminder, please try to use the FAST RELY or ADD REPLY buttons at the bottom of the page, not the QUOTE button. Banana lilies should be fine.
BettaBetta
Beautiful fish Ben! How's he going now since the Bettafix? To this novice eye it looks like that's self inflicted ... just how my boy's was when he first starting biting & then he went on the rampage completely, ripping it out by the roots grrrr. They usually only tear their tails on those hideous looking plastic sharp plants, never on the ban lily or java moss. I've had no problems at all with silk plants either. gb86217
Hi BettaBetta, thank you. I think the Bettafix is working, but it only stops the biting, he need time to recover. I will post more photos once he got his nice fin back.

I got some IAL free from Aquaristic in sydney when they heard I drove all the way from Wollongong, they are very nice people and I think they just got some nice new betta in stock. anyway, I ordered some IAL from Jeff and Wan, so I will have some extra later, I can give some to you if you want.
