bettaworld
hi folks. i need advise on my female betta's thanks. they are heavy with eggs and they look like they are about to burst. they (5) are 4 months old and have not been mated yet. i was hopeing to rest them over winter and breed again next spring. so my question is, what happens to a female in egg if she is not mated and what happens to the eggs ?. they are in a communal tank. Chuckie
some become egg-bound but most will resorb the eggs. Becoming egg-bound, to my understanding, is due to a congenital defect. You wouldn't want to breed fish with that tendency anyway. It's also very uncommon - I have owned hundreds of bettas and have never had it happen. I also tend not to get females "heavy with eggs", although I have seen some swell up when next to a male, just prior to being released for spawning. When you describe them that way, what do you mean?

Yanagi
I actually have two females like this too. Probably has something to do with my suspicions one of the 'girls' is a really a boy in disguise...
