bubbzy81
I visited an aquarium today that I've never been to before & as I was giving it the once over (like we do), my other half walks past & makes a comment about exercise for bettas. Of course I asked him what he was muttering about so he took me over & showed me "exercise mirrors" for bettas. Now I may be really behind on the times here, but I've never heard of them & thought they were a really cool idea. It's basically a plastic bubble filled with air attachted to a piece string/line that has a mirror on the end. You just pop it in, the bubble floats (obviously) & the mirror dangles in the water. It says on the box something to the affect of "alleviates boredom in bettas", but naturally I thought of it being a great way to help condition bettas for breeding & for $9.95 it would be worth a try. I might go back & grab one next week. Just thought I'd share.
splendidbetta
It's an interesting idea. But it would also be great for spreading disease if your bettas are separated from each other. You could treat it like a net I suppose.
bubbzy81
Stefan, if I go back & get one I'll make sure I bring it to the MBG & you can give it the once over. lol
Lyarlla
:giggle: I think itd be a great idea, even for people with just 1 betta for a pet.
Peta
of course you'd also have to make sure it doesn't have any sharp edges It'd be interesting to see one in action.
bubbzy81
I tell you what, I'll go back on Friday & grab one & I'll make sure I take lots of photos & maybe even some video footage of it in use & we'll see if they are worth it. ninoid12
Agreed. It sounds easier than trying to balance a mirror externally. As long as they have made it out of stuff safe for water, and yes no sharp edges etc. What lps was it?
bubbzy81
This one is also in Hallam, but not the one I went to yesterday. I'll take you there on Friday.

splendidbetta
Blu-tack is great for sticking mirrors to the side of tanks. You can also turn it into a flexible "hook" to hang it on a coke bottle.

Bettarazzi
I can see a lot of beginners just leaving it in there the whole time.

ninoid12
When i started out, i never carded or separated them. And, ashamedly, i also had one of those small plastic tanks with the split in the middle. Now i know betta (pun intended lol) I think that'd be good if you had only one betta, or more than one but in different areas of house etc. Put it in for an hour or two a day, he'd be happy. But agreed with bettarazzi, many ppl would leave them in all the time. Poor exhausted stressed fish.
fishbites
Funny that they have a patent pending for this! People have been dangling mirrors in tanks for this same purpose for years. Does patent pending mean we can't do that anymore? I had one made up of an old mirror scrap and a table tennis ball years ago - mind you it wasn't professionally finished and didn't look fancy but did the same thing. Even funnier .... did anyone see the Betta leaf hammock and the floating Betta log that had links on the page Manda showed for the floating mirror? The log is especially amazing - your fish can breed, play, sleep, blow bubble nests and feed in this log!!! LOL!!!
ninoid12
hilarious!!!! I want one of each just for the fun of it!!! :) :)
Lyarlla
LOL. I am having a good chuckle over all this right now. I'm surprised they havent come up with fake worms for the betta to play with... "A naturalistic red worm for your Betta to chew on! Allows your Betta to hunt worms near the bottom of the water just like they do in nature!! Comes complete with suction cap to prevent worms from actually being eaten and ensure hours of entertainment!!!"

bubbzy81
Ok, I can deal with the exercise mirror, but Betta Leaf Hammock & Floating Log? That's just insane!
