fighter boy
hay all. Well there hasnt been much talk, to my knowledge, of another Melbourne Betta Gathering and im just wondering when are we going to have the next one? Unfortunatley i missed the first one earlier in the year and am really hanging for the next one. My house is not suitable for such an event as im limited on space so if anyone would like to put their hands up to hold the meeting that would be great. Post here if interested... Its been awhile and lets get this show on the road... A venue would be first priority and then a date is to be chosen... regards, rob
Neffy
im in the same boat as you, missed the first one really looking forward to another no space to host :D
Chuckie
you guys could have a bbq at a park somewhere instead of meeting at someone's house?
ninoid12
As we discussed and agreed at the last meeting, we are waiting until the weather is warmer. It would not be fair for the fishies to have a cold outing. I will most likely be selling up most of my bettas at the meeting, so bring $$$ when it is planned :D
bubbzy81
Yeah, we were aiming for September thinking that the weather would be warmer, but it's still pretty cold atm. We may have to wait till summer at this rate.
Chuckie
are you selling off all your fish, Nina? Or just offspring?
ninoid12
most of my fighters. Honestly, enjoying my community tank and my bn tanks more than the fighters. I know i will miss them and get back into them, but need a break. So youngstock and breeding stock. Will keep 7 for my barracks i have on my mantle thats probably it. Chuckie
I know what you mean - am having a similar feeling at the moment. The Crash of the Grindals, the BGA outbreak, and general malaise have all contributed to my lack of motivation. And the small, slow growing winter spawns. Meh! killimike
We ebb and flow, it's the nature of the beast! But we're coming out of Winter, into the glorious fish season of Summer! Well, Spring ATM, but you get the idea Due to Lisa's motivation and guidance, we've managed a few SBGs so far this year, and they have always been excellent events. I would encourage you Melbournites to try and top the splendens pav
bubbzy81
Yep, we're all in the same boat. Over the past 3months I've lost approx 18 fish for no obvious reasons. & as Nina can vouch for, there were many a moment when I was ready to just chuck it all in! splendidbetta
A BBQ or picnic at a nice park would be great. I agree, we should wait until it warms up... but not too warm - 30C or less? I'm sure we could top my bettapav. I might be motivated to do another pav, but probably a different design. Anyone thinking of bringing some creative food, or have some ideas for me?
ninoid12
oh god, if you can top your pav, that would be ridiculously amazing!!!! It was the most stunning creation, as well as the most scrumtious pavlova ive ever eaten! *drool* But i will think of creative ideas I want to see a dt betta pav. hehe oh dont worry, i'll be getting back into bettas again im sure of it. I was into them about 6yrs ago but didnt know had to heat them etc (yes i know! Damn lfs!) so they all died in winter. Had 15 or so in vases all over the place. And water changes? what were they? lol Ive learned a LOT the past 2yrs.

ninoid12
So would i. but probably not related enough to the Betta meeting lol Maybe you and i should try that in our own time, and EAT IT!!! YUM!!! Maybe a bristlenose pancake? hehe (ok, ok. Im hungry lol)
bubbzy81
Bristlenose pancake! Bahahahaha! Next time we're in Pancake Parlour I'll ask if they have Bristlenose on the specials board!

andrew
All sounds great but no one has suggested a location or a date
fighter boy
If anyone has ducted heating like i do then that would be great. I would put my hand up but im living with the parents and have younger siblings around the joint.. Makes it difficult... The park is a good idea but it would have to be damn hot for the fishies to be in a happy mood. Plus the wind would cause the water to cool abit wouldnt it? bubbzy81
Besides the fact it would have to be a REALLY warm day for the fish if we went to the park, what happens if the weather that day just turns out to be crap? We do live in Melbourne after all! LOL. I wouldn't mind having it at my house, but you can't swing a cat in my house on a good day. Depends on how much room we would need & how many people would be coming.
ninoid12
holly, you cant swing a MOUSE in your house!!! lmfao I would be worried taking fishies to a public park. For number of reasons. Hopefuly we can work something out. Are there any halls for VERY CHEAP hire that anyone knows of? Like if we pitch in $10ea or somethin, and bring food to share. That would be ok with me....
splendidbetta
A cheap hire hall would be fine.
bubbzy81
Yeah, point taken Nina. We'd probably have more room if we moved the Mustang outta the garage & had it in there! lol But if worse comes to worse we could rearrange the lounge room, bring some garden chairs in..... It could be done. But then would the distance be a problem for a lot of people??? Carrum Downs isn't really local for majority of people. But it is close to Eastlink. fighter boy
close enough for me. Im springy south. Sounds like a plan with both ideas...
Chuckie
I think you're all worried unnecessarily about the temperature. We truck killies all around sydney in the daed of winter and they're fine. We use foam boxes. If you have an esky with a heat pack (if it really is cold enough to justify one) they'll be fine unless you want to have them on dispaly for hours. IME they're more likely to suffer on a hot day, anyway. But I'm not in melbourne - just thought our experiences here in sydney may translate. Bettarazzi
Sorry I've hardly been around the forum lately. I don't mind hosting another gathering at my place. I did find that it was a bit squashed last time but I guess we can make do.
