bubbzy81
Here's a few pictures of my fellas I hope *fingers crossed* to breed. I apologise about the terrible photos, but I haven't worked out how to take a decent pic on my camera yet. Especially of little fishy subjects who won't stay still! My snow white delta (who is proving to be a bit of a dud - he refuses to blow a bubble nest): My HM (possible giant): My longfin (??? not sure. He's just such a gorgeous colour I couldn't resist) I hope I can figure out this breeding thing, coz I think they'd have good looking babies. & I apologies once again for the crapy photos, but I thought some where better than none! Chuckie
The green/turquoise one looks like he is a super delta. I think the red and blue fish is a SD too. There's an article about the different tail types here: http://ausaqua.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=7664 Your tanks look very, very clean. That can make it hard for the bubbles to stay together, and they pop. If you add some indian almond leaf, it makes the water viscous and can motivate them to make a nest. some people have also had success with decaf tea. Your white delta has a lovely wide dorsal. Do you have females? Any photos of them? :)
bubbzy81
Oh Lilli I am just having the hardest time with this breeding thing. The white delta has a beautiful matching girl who he shows NO interest in. The tank you've seen them pictured in are not the tanks I was trying to breed them in. I had him in an 18" tank, only filled about a quater or so, plenty of elodea for her, a styrafoam cup cut in half for him, temp set at 28-30 degrees, I added black water developer for him (which has the trace elements of tannin & humic acid) & he did NOTHING! Not a single bubble. I even had her in there in a coke bottle, she seemed to like him, but he'd just go & sit in the elodea. He was in there for over a week & showed no signs of doing anything so I took him out. I just gave up! But meanwhile one of my gorgeous VTs from the LFS was blowing a great bubble nest so I thought I'd put him in a breeding tank & see how he goes. Sure enough he starts building a bubble nest under his styrafoam cup, but by the morning it's gone. I don't know if it's just not holding together or if he is just destroying them. I was nearly in tears last night. I have been spending so much time trying to do this right & putting so much effort into it & I just can't seem make it happen. I feel so defeated! I'm just hoping when the blue/red & the metallic green get a little older they'll want to breed otherwise I think I'm going to give up on this gig & just breed my guppies. I'll try & get some pics of my girls (I've got 6 little girls) but for now here's a very out of focus pic of my delta girl: P.S Regarding the blue/red & green I'm just going by what type the breeder said they were coz I'm hopeless at being able to tell! lol
Chuckie
That girl looks nice .. almost 'PK boy' nice, but it's hard to tell from the photo. If she's a he, the SD could just be petrified of s/him! I am sure you can see eggs in her and are confident she's a girl. Or maybe he just felt under the weather. How is he generally, lethargic or active? How long was he alone in the breeding tank before the girl joined him? Did he have time to get territorial or was he maybe still a bit unsettled from being moved? Can you put the white male in the breeding tank and try putting one of the other males in the coke bottle? See if you get a different reaction? Do try and get some IAL, it really eliminates the 'maybe the bubbles are just popping' issuse from the equation *lol*
bubbzy81
Maybe I introduced the female to soon. & "she" is definetly a she. She has a big belly full of eggs - just ready to spawn. He is certainly not the fiestiest betta I've ever had. I wouldn't say he's "lethargic" as such, just really easy going. I have put other boys in there, he came out for a little sticky beak, but then just chilled out in the elodea. I even put a mirror next to his tank, found out he loves his own reflection! lol But even now he's back in the barracks with the other fellas & he doesn't flare at the boy next to him - just watches his own reflection. I think I've given up all hope with him.
