Chasing Sanity
I was looking at getting a few grassy type plants, because I love grasses, but I have no idea which ones have less demanding light requirements.
Peter16
Vals.
Callatya
Do you mean grass like lawn-style groundcover plants or reeds? Most of the groundcovers need high light, and I believe hairgrass is medium light. Vals should be fine in low light, but they might be more like reeds than grass. Chasing Sanity
I'm guessing more like reeds, the long thin type of grass. I adore the way it moves in the water, it's unlike anything else.
Peter16
Contortionist (cork screw?) Val is nice? As is Thin Val. There are many varieties, just do a quick search and see what you like.
eggy
pygmy chain swordplant is nice, but it needs bright light and isn't good for people who are new to keeping plants so it needs a good firtilizer. val is very good and quickly produces young shoots by means of runners and grows flowers from some stems wich may appaer curly, thiner or thicker than usual depending on the species. another nice plant is lilaeopsis but needs a very bright light to survive, but in good conditions it can grow rather quickly to form a dense carpet. Callatya
Thin val would be my pick. I had corkscrew val for a while, but it doesn't seem to put out the same growth as thin in low light conditions.
Chuckie
Thin Val will grow in just about any conditions, IME!
Chasing Sanity
I really like the look of Thin Val!
Peter16
It grows pretty tall, and once it reaches the surface it will float across the top and shelter the other plants from receiving light so it will need regular trimming
lpiasente
Rush is good. You can get it in a dwarf variety and it comes in green yellow and verigated (spelling)
jag5059
Hi If you need grassy plants for the foreground then i think best choice will be Dwarf hair grass or Japanese hair grass. For the tall option at the background Cyperus Helferi is awesome plant. Cheers
Chasing Sanity
Thanks you guys, I've decided to get a few different grassy plants, and see what I can grow in our plant tank (tadpoles make plants thrive...)
