lpiasente Posted January 20, 2009 Report Share Posted January 20, 2009 I have some new discus comming home tomorrow and my quarantine tank had been used last week for a hospital tank. I cleaned all the tank and added new filter media and then put the quarantine filter into the community tank with a fully seeded filter.How long will it take for the new filter media to have a big enough bacteria colony to be used? It will be looking after 2 small discus that get 50% water changes every second day? P.S I also put lots and lots of filter squeezings into the new media. Callatya Posted January 20, 2009 Report Share Posted January 20, 2009 Ohhh, a bit tight! At least 4 days, but for stability I'd really want it running on the established tank for about 2 weeks. If you had a seeded gravel bed in the new tank you could get away with less time. Can you move the community tank filter onto the discus tank, so you have a fully established filter there, and a new filter and established tank on the community?
