Chuckie
I think I have only ever experienced HMs chewing tails (although I can't see why a DTMH wouldn't - but do they?). Do VTs? Do CTs? Do Pks (can they even reach?!?!) Tell us what you've experienced .
kristin
I have a CT who chewed his tail so much he looked like a PK.
Fishchick
The only type that don't chew are those that cannot reach. VT, DTVT, HM/SD, DTHM/SD, CT all have the potential to chew. So if you want pristine fins, buy a plakat. Cheers, J
Peta
Yeap Vt's definitely do Eric's a tail chewer, I was actually worried about him getting stressed out and taking a bite out of his tail during the move, so far so good.... :)
Chuckie
ah, my decision to switch to PKs seems more sensible all the time!
Sara_01
They seem less prone to finrot and they also seem to hold their form better with age. PKs are just so active, loads of personality. I've never seen chewing in CTs, no doubt they can, it'd be a bit less obvious though :) Edited December 15, 2008 by Sara_01
splendidbetta
I've found that HMPK are much more active, and they retain their finnage quality for longer. I have offspring from spawns I did at the end of last year, whose quality has decreased to no significant extent . I have not experienced any chewing, and fin rot has been extremely rare. Plakats for me are a definite plus compared to longfins.
Peta
but the longfins are sooo pretty... guess it's true what they say - beauty comes at a price hehe (not to say that PK's aren't beautiful... I've got one PK coming in my first aquabid buy!!)
Sara_01
The only thing that kept me dealing with longfins through many a bought of finrot was how pretty they are. Those days are behind me though (touch wood) although those days DID kindle my love for HMPK, so now my Aquabid bills are twice as big :(
Chuckie
I always like HMs best when they first begin to sprout and flare and they are all chunky, so I am hoping I get the same feel from HMPKs!
Canfeleq
An undamaged good quality HM in full flare is absolutely magnificent, but the chewing and finrot are starting to lead me towards PK's as well. Other than HM the only other tail type that chewed with me was a VT. The other thing that I have noticed is that VT's don't seem to be as prone to finrot as any of the other longfins. Hybrid vigour? Bettarazzi
I've never been one that was particularly attracted to the easy road. Plakats just don't do it for me. I'm happy to put up with the fleeting beauty of the long-finned halfmoon.
