guppiness
Hi, I was wondering if someone could tell me why i've now got like 7 fry (of guppies) when i was sure i started out with nearly 20. I realise that they are moving really fast now that they're a little bigger but there is just not as many and they are kept in a breeding net. pls help :)

guppiness
i don't know? i know that the adults will eat the fry as soon as they're born???
Bettarazzi
If the fry grow at different rates the bigger ones could be eating the smaller ones. In a breeding net you can only see them from above. So they may get ick without you noticing. This could have killed off some of the fry. Maybe you should give them a tank of their own. Aleisha18
I find if the female is left in a tank with any other fish the newborns get munched as soon as the other fish lay eyes on them. Seperate the female before she gives birth.
guppiness
No see the adults (incl. the mother) are all out side. they have been since they were born. the female jumped out of the net after she had them right. so i counted them then. and there seemed to be about 15 or so. now i have like 7. Bettarazzi
The smaller ones are probably getting eaten by the larger ones. Or some of them are getting sick and dying without you noticing.
darennkj
I don't think fry from the same batch can outgrow each other by that much until they are capable of eating their siblings. I haven't seen mine doing that. Normally (not always), the bigger one's will only eat the little ones if they can manage to do so in one gulp. Maybe check if there is a hole somewhere where the little ones could have sneaked out?

Dont count on it. Not sure about guppies, I've seen it happen with plenty of others
