Mishy
Guys, what's the description for monster mean? I remember someone telling me previously it was to do with the scales and metallic in their colour, as well as their size. Can someone please clarify this for me? Bettabegood
I've never heard of a "masked monster"; could it be a distant (and larger) relative of the "Masked Avenger", perhaps?? Sue

Fishchick
I confess to using this term out of a case of Monkey See Monkey Do. From what I have been able to observe over the last couple of months is the term "monster" is given to plakats with full masks and an unusual combination of opaque and metallic. If you look closely at the colour it is not like the standard metallics (matt blue, steel, turq) or even the imbellis style metallics (bright shiny metal sheen) To me, the two "monser" plakats the club has put up for sale so far look like they have been painted with pastel mint green paint. The colour is raised, look at where the body meets the fins. Also observe the head of the male Mishy is interested in. Unfortunately he is turning away, but there is an opaque patch there. I'll see if I can find some better pics of his face later. I thought the term "mint ripple" would have been a better way to describe them! Cheers, someone
Callatya
Ahh, i saw that.... you'd better get out of your breeding slump there Mishy! Fry Please! Looks like an ordinary mask to me.
Phil
I have noticed that they usually have a whitish opaqish head and metallic body, but fully masked. In the beginning i thought it was a new name for a Giant but its just for masking. I gess its like all the new names they are making up etc Like Master Gold, when its just a normal gold. Figure_8
:(( they don't look anything like the first two! I hate names that get thrown around so loosely. People end up so confused.. like me (
Mishy
Phil, Cam has a couple of those monsters at his place so I was wondering if it was a strictly plakat thing. It doesnt look like it... so I was hoping for an explanation. I think Kelson (or maybe another breeder) tried to explain what it was meant, but I can't find the explanation to save myself
Mishy
Found it! Sorry Cam/Steve.. needed to hijack this from your site (I hope you don't mind) 'The difference between a plakat and a monster plakat is the different kind of scales on the body.A normal plakat has no shine on it but the monster plakat has a smooth shine and also has a msak on the face(means face cover or like painted with the colour from the body towards the face too) makes the fish look like wearing an armour.........it is a vey beautiful betta,it was introduce 1 1/2 years ago,i was first to brought this in to singapore and was selling very well, but at that time the mask on the face was not develop yet.now they have the Awesome Full Mask monster Plakat...........Do look out for it! kelson' There we go. VickiPS
Hey, those "monsters" look like the rare and unique rabbit-faced bettas to me. My younger daughter has a red/black/white marble VT called Bloods with a white and black face -- does that mean he really IS a monster?
Fishchick
Well, it seems the American's have coined their own term for this type of colour - Armadillo! Armadillo Betta Cheers, J
