Bettarazzi
Isn't it great what you find when you finally take the time to fossick through your holiday pics? I found a little video clip of someone jarring fry. See.... treat them rough and they grow big and strong. ">" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> LOL! You can hear someone getting told off for lifting the tile off one of the spawning containers at the end. It wasn't me! I was filming the jarring lady. :P
Fishchick
same way I clean my jars! (except I put betadine in the water and use a battery drill...water and electricity...hmmm) Photo of the filling rake Photo of the tipping rack for emptying jars Photo of Todd on the jars Glad you enjoyed your trip. Bettarazzi
Thanks for adding those pics Jodi. Still wish I saw them doing it for real. I wonder how long it takes to water change each rack.
Ghengis
Hey B/azza, nice pics, mate. How did you get the fish that you bought back into the country? Hand luggage? Or did you go through an agent like Jody? Are the fish much cheaper, bought directly from the farms? Some of those Aquabid prices are insane! Especially now that I see just how crudely they are bred. Bettarazzi
Nah, you can't just bring fish back with your luggage. I had an arrangement to have them imported legally via Jakarta direct to Melbourne. However, that arrangement fell through and my fish are stranded in Jakarta. They'll probably be sold now but I'm still looking at alternatives. The farm that's pictured specialises in large quantities for the pet shop trade as opposed to high quality show bettas. I didn't get an opportunity to go to Rayong where some of the famous AquaBid breeders are located (eg. Banleangbettas or Bluebetta). I think on the farms where they produce the high quality show bettas, the fish are raised more carefully. I think I saw a picture somewhere that showed show quality halfmoons being raised in massive 10 ltr jars.

Bettarazzi
The farm I visited had at least a hundred spawning containers set up. There would have been several pairs of the same variety I expect. So I guess they don't much care whether the pair lived or died. They were fed a cooked egg mixture that looked like scrambled eggs. It had other stuff added to it but eggs were the main ingredient. Our guide did mention what was in it but I wasn't particularly impressed so I didn't bother to retain the information. It looked like a messy and time consuming way of feeding fish and I couldn't see myself trying it. Bazzi only sounds like a cheap car if you put Hyundai in front of it.
tlc33
LOL That's exactly how I was imagining it. Hyundai Bazzi with moisture sensing wipers and heated air bags...
Bettarazzi
Oh... yes very important.... nothing worse than a cold air bag when a semi has just crashed into you.
tlc33
Oh and by the way I'm positive the H'Bazzi would have to have a radiator/cooling system that needs filling EVERY day. That's part of the reason it's soooo cheap! :scared:
