Tuataress
Hi everyone When I fed my community tank 2 days ago I discovered this strange batch of eggs sitting amongst the plants floating on top of the tank. Does anyone have any idea what they are? I removed the first batch as they scared me. Then when I got home from work I noticed another batch which I have left, they have now turned brown. I have 1 betta in the tank. 3 platies (so they carn't be their's) and 10 neons (maybe they belong to them as I read sometimes they lay their eggs amongst the plants and sometimes they mould away at the top of the tank). I just hope nothing is crawling in there and making use of the wamth. Here is my community tank: and here are the cluster of eggs:
splendidbetta
Are you sure they are eggs? They look like a fungus or something on the roots.
howlsn
my bet is plant related fungus too.
Tuataress
could be - there are more in the tank and not just on that one plant this is what they look like today - they start out white then turn dark brown:
jumper
that actually looks a bit like the "thing" Celeste had on her tank b4... It looks pretty similar to me (or my screen)
splendidbetta
They could be snail eggs... Tuataress, could you take one out and see what happens when you crush it?
Tuataress
Ok I have crushed a couple of them, they are hard, like seeds. They might be snails, I had a couple in there but they died a couple of water changes ago. Might wait and see what happens, hopefullu it is nothing harmful
Celeste84
naw the stuff i had was definitly small white fuzzy balls jumper it's not the killer slime afaik. could you try removing them to another unused tank?? that way if it is baby fish they're not killed, but if it isn't you may be able to see what it is without endangering the tank?? Tuataress
thanks for the suggestion Celeste - I have taken them out and placed them in a small tank. Whatever they are they keep depositing new eggs! I think they might be those strange crawling bugs that roll up into a circle. I found one in one of my other tanks. I'll go looking for aliens at the next water change!
jumper
naw the stuff i had was definitly small white fuzzy balls jumper it's not the killer slime afaik. oki doki, as you can see my eyes do not work too well and anything "strange" in the tank is classified as dangerous for me. would be curious to find out what is that though since you have put it on another tank. (Thanks Celeste for helping out on "visualisations" :(
Celeste84
just an idea, but, yano how you said they were hard like seeds? well...since you have plants in the tank...they wouldn't ACTUALLY be seeds would they?
Tuataress
Hi - I have put them in another tank. Still waiting on them to morph into something. I don't think it is going to be fish and I don't think it is going to be a tree! I'll keep you all posted! I agree with you Jumper - if I don't know what it is - it's a hazard. take care
