howlsn
Hi guys, After your opinions on this giant x "she". I hadn't questioned "her" until moving her today close to the male I intend to breed her to where "she" flared until tired over & over today & built a small nest. "She" is leaner in shape than the spawn brothers & has been in view of 2 mature males & a heap of flaring juvie males with no signs of flaring or interest whatsover she is bigger than my other orange girls & tended to chase so she was isolated, not interested in flaring for a mirror but her behaviour today next to this new male plus lack of bars after being around males parading for her so long. Just after opinions while I wait n see.
PeterJ
How does her caudal compare lengthwise to her spawn brothers? That's a pretty solid ovipositor happening...
BabyDragonz
only thing i can say is maybe she is what ppl would call a tomboy lol or maybe she's just agressive im not sure what else i can say :applaud:
splendidbetta
That's a Female.
howlsn
Thanks guys, I was thinking she was just an assertive female just wanted others opinions as piece of mind as my other girls are so distinct yet there is very little between her & the PK spawn brother in comparison. I expect that she will bar up & get more "girly" when isolated with just her & the breeding male across the divider in spawning conditions. She's grown noticeable fin in the past week esp. ventrals so thought I'd post & see what you more experienced thought.
Figure_8
what does she do when placed next to a female?
howlsn
she gets agro. I tried placing her wth 2 orange girls in a 4ft planted tank all to themselves & she would half flare & chase similar to that of a boy & hunt them out but I assumed because of the ovipositor she was just a narky girl as she was kept isolated before I got her & she is a lot larger. So I moved her to a large floating barrack where juvies swim around & she neighbours a PK & LFS male. She does build bubblenests but its not the first girl I've had that does. also she doesn't flare at the male in return to his parading, she tries her hardest to instigate with full gill flare & tries to attack the male through the divider moreso than any girl I've seen. She has been relentless at flaring & up & down the divider for more than 8hrs only stopping to rest even in the boy is ignoring her she still flares. Poor boy is on the bottom taking & she's LOL! howlsn
Yep. Nice girl (apart from making me judge my sanity today ). I got the delta Butterfly Salamander boy from her, with this lady & handsome P.K.
Phil
I Love my pair from Deb, do you have pics of the others?
howlsn
Yep. The P.K has grown/developed a bit from this pic. very similar to the femail (but less finage) & heavier. & the lovely BF delta (pic by Debstep). I like this guy, my LFS male did a miraculous leap into his quarters & gave him a bit of fin nip so this older pic does him better justice. I also got a trio of orange HM bred (male Super Delta) that I just adore. About to spawn a pair this coming week, the girls are that full off eggs it's unreal! Very happy with Deb's fish! BabyDragonz
yeah my RT jumped into another males quarters too tore his tail right down the middle. was a bit cross with him for that but hey what can you do :)
howlsn
Always the way....I was just about to take good pics of the BF & got sidetracked, came back & after a week of being next door with no dramas the LFS VT "somehow" got in with him (jumped apparently making it against the odds) & took a chunk out of the BF's caudal... I was far from impressed. LOL!
BabyDragonz
yeah i sooo no that feeling although it was the RT's fault with mine
Celeste84
don't worry guys, the fins grow back in next to no time at all you know my big red male?? would you believe he got half his tail and almost all of his anal fin shredded by another young male not two months ago? and those photos of him were taken on the same day they were posted with aggressive females i tend towards breeding them with either CTs or PKs as they are more agressive than the other long finned varieties and as such less likely to get killed by the female (and the female being aggressive is less likely to die as well since she'll give the male back what he dishes out and he'll learn to behave soon enough) :(
BabyDragonz
its almost been a month since my RT tore his tail its grown a quarter of the length bak so he looks less like a DT lol so im not too worried still you can't help getting cross with them when it happens ^^ if it happend during spawning i wouldn't hav been so cross lol
howlsn
I'm just going to play her by ear re-spawning, see how she reacts after a few days of just the boy next to her, hoping she will settle. The P.K is very timid the big chicken she would kick his backside (tries to hide from the juvies across the divider). The BF is quite assertive also so hopefully it will equal out & not have one just beat the other senseless. Not planning to spawn asap hope to see the girl more interested in spawning than what she is presently.
Celeste84
have you got any IAL or blackwater extract in her water?? that would help her get in the mood for breeding

howlsn
I think she is still somewhat immature so I'm just hoping "hormones" will come into affect & she'll become more girly & less inclinded to be so aggressive. She's carrying very minimal eggs although it looks like she is in the pic which is a bit decieving, so plan is to to see if she "eggs up" & go from there. I'm just glad I haven't lost my mind & she indeed is a she :)
