crdave
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make a divider for a 22L tank. I'd like to divide it to house two female bettas sharing the water and heater etc. Idealy I want to make it removable.Maybe held in place with suction cups? Alternatively is this tank too small for three females ?
SAbetta
Females can be kept together. But if you really want to I have (tonight) divided my tank into 3 with A4 plastic pockets with cardboard in them. They bend to fit your tank. I just tape the open end and staple it and keep that end above water line. Simple yet effective!
Jess
Try using those black doodars that hold posters up and fix some sturdy mesh in between it will keep water flow happening still.
canary
You could try the garden section at stores, I think you might be able to get some plastic mesh/grating stuff that has holes about 1cm square
Jess
That's the stuff! Gutter guard $4-6 a roll.
crdave
Ah now thats a good idea. Why didn't I think of that, I'm always at the hardware store. I may have to use two layers so that I can close the holes up a bit but thats easy enough. Just so happens I need to go to Home today work hehe

SAbetta
My method is primitive and far more "emergency" suited! :o
crdave
Thanks for the piccies Callatya. Very neat ideas, cheers. Is plastic canvas what I'd call shadecloth, the stuff you put on pergolas etc.? I wonder if plastic fly wire would work ?

It's good budget wise until you find yourself a new suitable tank (or pretty dividers) for whatever trouble you were having. :o
crdave
I've not had them for years so any idea where to get the poster thingies anyone?
Callatya
Plastic canvas is for longstitch and available at spotlight, its stiffer than the mesh stuff for shadehouses. The poster hangers are available at Kmart for $5 for a pack of 2 clear ones.

crdave
Thanks for the help Callatya, I got the plastic canvas at a local craft store, what great stuff for dividers. I used the poster hangers too and located the whole thing with suction cups from lfs and cable ties. The bottom of course is held in place by the gravel. Works a treat . Thanks again. sammc
Love the look of the tank with glass dividers, callatya! I might try something like that myself.
crdave
Would the plastic canvas dividers be ok to use with two male bettas ?
Callatya
It *should* be fine providing its all wedged in nicely. Without gravel I have had one wiggle though the side down the bottom (took some serious skill, still not sure how he managed!), but never had problems once the gravel was in. maybe do a bit of desensitising first so they don't go all out to squish through to each other. Pop one or both in a floating holding jar so they get used to the sight of each other
crdave
They're in glass barracks next to each other atm. so they can already see each other. I'll put them in a divided tank, that way they'll have more room to move around. Cool idea as this way I only need to run one heater and filter and both boys will be happy chappies. :)
VickiPS
If you use the plastic canvas and poster hangers, you can silicone strips of the poster hangers to the front and back wall of the tank and just slide the plastic canvas in. If you change your mind later, it's no big hassle to remove the strips from the tank.
