d_golem
Most of my fry is wiped out due to my BBS hatchery not working and the fry won't accept frozen BBS. I'm gonna need some MW or VE starting culture if I'm gonna do a spawn again.

d_golem
Thx Mouse The fry are able to eat the MW but it was more difficult then BBS due to the shape of the worms & constant wriggling The guy in Aquotix said that I don't need yeast when starting a new culture, just sprinkle some sugar on the oats base as the yeast is already with the current MW culture. Is this true?
Halszka
All I do to make a new culture is make some porridge, with milk, and then scrape some worms from the old culture to the new. In a couple of days you'll have a brand new culture and they should start climbing the sides of the container Just keep in mind that it takes a couple of days for them to multiply enough to do that, and you need to keep the old one till the new one has grown. Figure_8
I like to add yeast regularly to kick start things and keep them going.
d_golem
What does the yeast do anyway?
Figure_8
yeast is what the microworms feed on. That is what they are eating in the whatever mix is you are keeping them in. If you add extra yeast, like most opportunistic things they will multiply more rapidly with a greater food source.
d_golem
Ah ic now I should be able to get baker's yeast in Coles or Woolies, rite?
Callatya
Yup, in the baking section, yellow and green pack, brand is Tandaco or something. Comes in 5 sachets or 20 sachets, you probably don't need more than 5, I still have my pack from a year or so ago and i've only used a few sachets .
