Shadoh's Fish 2012

I don't think it is a problem to breed true, as everything I have been reading suggests that it is a dominant trait. The thing is that here in Oz, you mostly have VTs showing this trait. You can cross the VT into a HM, CT, HMPK line, but will take several generations to get the desired tail type back. That is where a lot of the problem lies - correct me if I am wrong here, but not many people are developing and working on their own lines. On the forum with the exception of Ness and Bettarazzi's fish, there aren't too many people taking their lines any further than the 1st or 2nd generation. Whatever the reason, I think that's where the problem lies. I, myself would love to develop a line or two but struggle to get an F1 spawn off the ground...

I hate to jinx it, but this young guy is my latest show hope. He is the only male of the spawn to have his Fathers colouring. Formwise, although he has a lot more growing to do, he is a definite improvement. Next generations, I will be looking at cleaning up the fins by trying to minimize the bleeding of the copper colour into the fins.

This female and couple of matching sisters turned up in my Royal Blue/Black Lace spawn.

Phil, If you are reading this, this is the male I was thinking for you...

I love these guys. Not a bad HM distraction from my PKs. I doubt I'll do any more HM spawns, as I want to concentrate on other things. Just an indication of the quality Jim's (JHA) fish can produce.

Bump me, I have a couple more...

PS: I have a couple of people lined up to breed these guys, so the line won't end with me. If I couldn't have found anyone wanting to breed them, I would have kept them going...

Thanks mate :D

The next two are the F1 from the original Orange Marble spawn. I had a couple of Copper Red males in that spawn, so I decided to spawn a male to a metallic sibling sister to try and get more. The boy turned out to be an egg AND fry eater, so after 2 or 3 spawns, I removed the eggs for a fatherless hatch. 6 survived. These two are the first to be jarred. I think this is the only copper red male...

The female is starting to get thicker dragon like scales. Her grandmother was a marble dragon...

That HM pair I got off you are small but she has dropped eggs???? Going to wait a little while before I attempt them but if she has eggs, that means they could do it?? Not sure if he would be up to his role.

Technically they should be able to, but I would suggest waiting till they get bigger. If she keeps filling with eggs, reduce her exposure to males and skip a feed or two - she'll reabsorb them.

Besides, you are spoiled for choice with other fish to spawn at the moment :P

This is one of my newly sprouted HM boys. At first I thought that he was Turquoise, but the body colour has deepened to a more Royal Blue. Under light he looks Royal Blue, but looks a Turquoisy/Teal colour with the lights off. He certainly looks different to the other Royals - could he be metallic Royal Blue and the others not be metallic? I'm confused...

Under Lights...

With the tank light off - Royal Blue on left Metallic Royal Blue (?) on right - hard to get true colour on camera, the guy on left looks more steel, but is definitely Royal IRL. The boy on the right has a more green irid with the overhead light off. I think you can at least see a difference between the 2 in this clip...

The "females" I was so excited about in my HMPK Red Copper spawn have now sprouted. The only fish from this lot I am not 100% sure of the sex is the runt - the only gold copper. Unsure whether I should spawn back to the mother or get some fresh blood into the line (perhaps a red copper DTHMPK if I can find one) I got a few spoonheads in this lot. Not good to breed, but will make nice display fish for someone.

This is my feisty HM Marble pair. I have to say, these late sprouting males have superior finnage and the HM girls are stunning when jarred and "trained". The boy has a slightly wonky ventral, but I am tempted to enter them in the pairs caregory in the September show :D Sorry about the reflections - it's late and cold and I just want to go to bed... *lol*

Still unsure how many I will keep and what I will sell on...

I've parted with 3 pair to some people who have said they will keep the line going :)

How does one choose what to keep? I can't seem to part with my babies this time around...
