SiameseFightingFist
Thanks Sha, I keep the lights on for at least 8 hrs a day. The lights are on longer during the weekends when I'm home.
SiameseFightingFist
hmm.... So since the spike in water readings over a week and a half ago no doubt part of the nitrogen cycle and probably aggravated by the plant fertiliser I erroneously and stupidly placed in the tank, I've been doing daily 20% water changes. The ammonia readings have been steadily declining and earlier this week ammonia has been yellow-ish and getting more so each day. Today it is as plain yellow (0 ppm) as it can get. Over the past few days the nitrite readings have been slowly declining as well and today finally it's coming light blue (0 ppm). Yesterday's reading was 0.25 ppm so I guess that sort of makes sense. It seems to have dropped off much faster than ammonia towards the tail end. Nitrate today is 5.0 ppm (same as yesterday). Today also marks three weeks since I started this tank too. I'm not going to assume the tank is fully cycled and will continue to do readings for the next three weeks to make sure the water is stabilised. SiameseFightingFist
The pH was stabilised at roughly 7.2 - 7.6 before the fertiliser incident. After the incident went down to 7.0. It's now stabilised at around 7.0 - 7.2, maybe closer to 7.2.
fishbites
sounds good did you check the pH of your fresh water? my tap water is about 7.2 so yours should be fine at 7.2 - IAL will bring it down a bit if you want it lower
SiameseFightingFist
no I didn't think to do check the pH of the water straight out of the tap, I'll do that tonight. What's IAL?
