Billphil
A warning I got home this evening and went to say hello to my fish and thought they were all hiding away from me. On closer examination my mouthbrooding Bettas had disappeared - stolen. I put so much into collecting these fish and they are all gone (along with my Apistos). I have reported the theft to the Police and they came out to look and seemed to be somewhat amused that I was reporting fish theft - who would want to steal live fish. I know of several instances of fish being stolen in Melbourne over the last couple of years. If you hear of wild Bettas being offered for sale from an unusual source please PM me or leave a message here. Many thanks
fishbites
Damn sorry to hear that Bill..... they would not be the sort of fish people would go looking for normally so I'm guessing it would have to be someone who knows you have them (lets be honest some have looks only a mother could love compared to other fish types)..... Will keep an eye out on the forums I go to and will definitely pm you if I see any offered - what species were they?
Fletch
That is crazy. Sorry mate. I would think you should be able to figure it out though. Only so many fish nuts would know where you live and your routine. Sad that it is someone you know and probably trust. Terribly sorry mate, hope you find the dirtbag. If I had wilds I would offer you a pair to start your collection again. :-(
kertaz
who would want to steal live fish. I know of several instances of fish being stolen in Melbourne over the last couple of years. I do too. I read some stuffs about stolen live marine fish a year or so ago. Other than the fish, hopefully there's no other damage done. Sorry to hear about your loss. :(
Matt_95
Somebody in Sydney was robbed last week and had Several thousand dollars worth of shrimp and fish stollen. I hope you catch them, theifs are the lowest life form around IMO. Did you give your home number away to anyone you don't know that well? Did anyone make a few cheap purchases off you and got to see your fish room? Have you had people call and hang up when you answer or claim they called the wrong number? Did you give anyone your adress who was going to buy something but pulled out? Its absolotly disgusting that somebody would do this, I hope you can restock easily, if i had anywilds or apisto's I would give you some, I lost my male Apistogramma sp. Fresa so I haven't ben able to breed them, when I get a replacment and do beed them you are welcome to a pair. I will keep my eyes out to although I doubt they will sell them, if somebody is that interested in them that they steall them it is probably for their personal collection. I sincerly hope you catch them.
Pyrefly
I can't believe someone out there exclusively steals fish?? Was anything else taken? Very sorry for the loss MelbBill Shame on the police for not taking it seriously - whatever else happened, someone broke into your property! Unbelievable <_<

Yanagi
Wow, it's really crazy to think people break into others houses to steal fish of all things. I'm sorry this happened to you, how awful.
kertaz
It's really disappointing that some people would break into someone else's property to get the livestocks. I meant, if you can get the livestocks, they -should- be able too, providing they look hard enough. And if they are not willing to pay for the prices and/or costs of running the setup/tank and livestocks, they shouldn't be in this industry. Probably they're not really scared of doing that because the police won't take it seriously too.
paul
MelBill I'm disgusted at how low human morals can get! It's an awful feeling to get broken into. Sorry you've experienced it! I have to agree with Matt - this was planned. I'm sure fish are the most impractical snatch and grab theft item, so whoever stole your fish needs to have planned ahead. I wonder if fish theft comes under the same rules as theft or a seperate rule book for poaching... does VIC even have a rule book for poaching? Hope you find out who it was, then publicly humiliate the ar.....................sssssooooo I'll stop there
Spanger
That's horrible. Poor you & your fishies too. Hope everything else is in place? Big hugs
forever_and_a_day
I'm really sorry for your loss :alright: It's also rather awful that the police treat it as a joke! Fish aren't just hobbies! (not for the likes of us anyways XD) it's more of an emotional and financial investment... and wow, Matt, the guy you linked to lost $2500 worth of shrimp. that's really, really appalling. mumofthehoarde
That is so cruel...Sorry for your loss. Why does there have to be jerks around that ruin it for people...I am a newbie to bettas and I love to look at other people's setups, it didnt even dawn on me that people would do that to case the joint. :censor:
Billphil
Everyone thatnk you for your sympathy Actually one never knows who will steal fish. A Melbourne hobbyist/breeder of catfish lost mega$ in catfish a couple of years ago - and I understand the culprit was actually a person who was considered beyound suspicion. melbournebetta
What. What. WHAT? Really? Literally UN BELIEVABLE... Bill - I'm bringing my pitbull to the fish fair, just say the word if you see your fish and I'll have their jugular served medium rare on a plate for you. That's insane. Makes me a bit worried about selling fish from my home (Lucky Felix and the others have been so damn lovely!) So sorry to hear this. -Ness

That's just really, really horrific. The first thing i notice (and loved) about the online (and offline) fish community was how open and friendly everyone was, especially about sharing resources and letting noobies (like me) getting glimpses of what fully fledged MT Syndrome was like... I'd hate for that all to change for future hobbyists just because of a couple of people. Edited June 29, 2011 by MT Syndrome

I'd hate for that all to change for future hobbyists just because of a couple of people. Unfortunately the hobby has already changed for the worse. Even 20 years ago many hobbyists opened their fish rooms for almost anyone to come and see the fish and chat and ask questions. Now that availability is very much limited. girlz0r
Urghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Sorry about your loss. It really angers me how some people can be so low. and have NO conscience. and have a serious addiction to fish, but are stupid enough not to realistically budget for their hobby. Which is stupid because then the questions is could they take care of the fish to a proper standard? :| how upsetting. ffs. *Punch*
